The best running app ever. It’s helped me push my training better than I even knew possible.
This app is brilliant at creating a realistic programme with incremental improvements and achievable goals. It is a fantastic tool for motivation and helps to keep a rewarding record of progress. Highly recommended!
I had an ex-boyfriend write to me, out of the blue, 15 years after we broke up, with great animosity, to say he heard I was training for a marathon and if I didn’t already have a firm training plan he wanted to suggest Hal Higdon. I politely thanked him and started researching. Hal became my guide as I went from severely physically damaged by an almost life ending birth experience with my second child to actually being able to run. I started by chasing my kids around in the house for five minutes, then ten. As I added ability I switched to Hal’s 5k plan. Then I finished, did my race, and right into the 10k. Then I did the half marathon followed by the full. I did not have an amazing time (6 hours and 45 minutes) but I finished without injury. I did all of that with the website and paper. Now I am returning to fitness again after a third challenging birth and a really unpleasant cancer experience. This time I stand for the app. Hal is so very kind. After years of having a low key abusive relationship with Garmin and their “no amount of exercise is enough for us to stop telling you that you should exercise more” I am so grateful to turn to Hal. The app tells you when you are pushing too hard and you need to slow down or you will get hurt. If you run on a rest day there is an incredibly gentle choosing about how mandatory rest time is. As a person with a very complicated medical history and a laundry list of health problems that will never go away, I feel like this app lets me set reasonable goals without pressure to act like I am a healthy teenager who can exercise all the time with little risk of injury. I feel supported. I am really grateful to Hal. I would not be the fit, tough cookie I am without his assistance.
Keeps you motivated with messages from Hal and all the stats
This is a great app. Train hard to fight easy.
…if it included hill training. The app is fantastic and I’ve seen fantastic results so far but I run a lot of it on trail so end up using my cross training days to do hill repeats instead as it seems to only really cater for road running and there’s no option to tailor for trails or even courses that are hilly.
Great app, links with Strava and even links more than one run together. Brilliant training app
I’m pretty happy with the app. I just wish there was an option to choose “illness” next to the option for “skip run.” I don’t need the app telling me it’s time to get motivated. I AM motivated, but I have covid. Having a general option to click illness as a reason to miss a run would be helpful for everyone.
In theory this should be great! In practice it’s a bit of a nightmare to use. Others have explained many of the UI/UX quirks that make it challenging, so I won’t rehash that here. Instead I’ll point out that the app is producing some pretty nonsensical training schedules. For example, I’m suddenly expected to double the length of my long run, and in the following week halve my overall mileage. Either this is some next generation training advice or there are some pretty fundamental flaws in the logic that designs training plans. It’s a shame, because the app has so much potential - just needs some better testing!
Great app for a levels of running!!
