The UX on this app is infuriating. Trying to add text to the beats and I almost always get stuck in the beat field. There’s no way to get out of it. On the occasion I can see the longline if I click on that I can get out but if not there’s no way to move out of the field. So frustrating. I hope they can fix this. Happy to send a video of what I’m talking about. Currently using the latest version on an iPhone 12 Pro.
The app features some improvements, it is better structured and more intuitive. I contacted the customer service and they provided me a promo code to migrate over to the essential version at no additional cost. They even helped me with the technicalities of the process. Highly satisfied.
I would have given this app a 5 star review after about 2 weeks of use, happy to be using the paid version of the app. Every time I’ve ever had my iPad run out of juice, I go plug it in and open it back up and everything is exactly where it was when the iPad ran out of battery. But this app... I just wrote 2 whole scenes when my iPad died on me. Go get it plugged in and open it back up... and the app started back at the beginning. I selected my project and everything I’d worked on was gone. Two whole scenes. It doesn’t back up like Google Docs, you have to keep interrupting yourself to remember to hit save like I’m typing in WordPerfect on my mom’s IBM back in the day, apparently.
The app is NOT available on my iMac. How is supposed to connect to my main computer? I don’t mind using my iPhone or iPad occasionally, on the run, but I use my Mac everyday. I’m not going to pay twice.
I spent $27 on the previous save the cat app, now i got to spend another $30+? is there no way to get at least the first tier since I paid for the previous app? If not, I'm very dissapointed
I write on the go, so my goal was to sync my work on my mobile with my MacBook. But unfortunately ‘STC’ is unable accomplish what Final Draft does just fine. Had I known beforehand I won’t have purchased. That’s a shame.

Why no monthly subscription option or trail period to test drive the app?
This is the sort of application any novelist may hope for (along with the book, Saves the Cat Writes a Novel). Personally, this was the very tool I was hoping to find after reading the corresponding book! It is simple, sure, albeit this is one of those instances in which simple is all that is necessary, for such a tool will make sure all of the needed components are there, so that you can create a compelling story: how to ensure you capture & keep the attention of your readers is found within these tried-and-true blueprints. …If one is unfamiliar with story formulas, described in Saves the Cat Writes a Novel, this app may not seem helpful. Thereby it is best to either read the book first, or research what each ingredient is independently (& understand it) before proceeding to utilize this application as an outlining tool for your story. So appreciative of both of these tools; they are essential to all writers who’d like to know the winning recipe for a wonderful & impactful story. Thank you Saves the Cat team!
Between Save the Cat and Scrivener, writing would be harder.
