Description

All new version, built from the ground up using Apple's standard, master-detail style for full compatibility with iOS functionality including Dark Mode.
Even if you don't own the desktop version of Save the Cat!®, you can still use this amazing tool, touted as the "secret weapon" of the working writer, to help build better, more powerful stories, with greater resonance and emotional impact.
Whenever your creative juices start flowing you'll have this revolutionary app, which is based on Blake Snyder's best-selling books and software, at your fingertips. You'll delight in the ability to structure your screenplay, teleplay, stageplay or novel the Save the Cat!® way.
By incorporating the methods, tips and tactics found in the Save the Cat!® series of books on story structure, this application will help you to:
* Develop a powerful Logline and Title
* Choose one of the 10 unique Save the Cat!® Genres
* Complete a Blake Snyder Beat Sheet (BS2) with variations for screenplays, novels, and 1/2 hour and 1 hour tv episodes.
* Use “the Board” to create cards for each scene and arrange them in the perfect order and to track character arcs and other important aspects of your story. Just long-press on a scene or other element in the Board then pick what you want to insert at that point.
* Add sequences to combine multiple scenes.
* Add labels to the Board to keep track of important points.
* Create Emotional Changes for each and every scene
* Create Set-ups and Payoffs as your protagonist progresses through the story
Sync your files across devices. This is a manual process so you're in complete control as to when you post and download your changes. Just create an account and login on all your devices. If you had a Save the Cat! account for the website or for when you purchased STC, that will not work here. You'll need to create a new account.
You can even add one or more writing partners to your project and sync your changes with them if you have the Premium or Pro level. Enter the username for their new STC account.
The free version allows you to add projects and work on your title, logline, genre, and the beat sheet. Many of the features listed below require an in-app purchase.
Essentials has all the basic functionality you need to develop a screenplay, novel, or tv episode with characters, locations set-ups, and pay-offs.
Premium adds the ability to track things or objects, and relationships. You'll also be able to develop a novel by chapters instead of using a beat sheet.
Pro adds the ability to develop an entire series of movies or novels that use all the same characters, locations, things, and relationships and to track their stories across the entire series. You can also develop an entire tv series with multiple seasons.
Other cool updates include the ability to have multiple versions of your beat sheet and multiple versions of your board for each beat sheet.
Much improved script typing. And, if you're working on a novel, just type in your manuscript with proper formatting.
All new facts section keeping track of important facts ("Bible" for tv writers) for characters, locations and other entities.
Add important elements for characters, locations and other entities that you need to track through the story. Add the character or entity to the Board and track those items through the story.
As always you can add attachments such as photos, pdf's, and other important research documents so you have everything at your fingertips.

Buggy and difficult to use

I tried this because the final draft app straight up didn’t work. This crashes a lot every 10-15 minutes, the interface is clunky, items that are in the tutorials are not there for formatting. It’s not very good, glad i only got there monthly sub, and i can cancel

Distressed

I have been a StC user for a while with no problem. But am confused and distressed that my iPad version won’t / can’t upload to my PRo laptop version. I have just started a new project on my iPad and am distressed that I might lose it or have to re type it all on my desktop to continue working and changes won’t be saved. My iPad version has gone back to bear basic beta testing mode. I can’t see or change my account password to make sure they both link but afraid to log out in case I can’t get back in. Help.I love the app etc normally but am afraid of the cat right now and pulling my fur out! I tried to reinstall via website but it says app is not available in my country or region 😳What’s going on. Help…

Misleading

Tomassinunited on

United Kingdom

I had an older version of Save the Cat on my iPad. I thought I would take the plunge and get the full version for a not cheap £28. The app was buggy and kept crashing and was looking dated. I then saw there is a new version on the App Store so downloaded that, only to again be asked for £20 to upgrade. Why wasn’t the old version of the app linked? Do I really need to pay again?

Great tool but buggy software

Missbongobongo on

I have the desktop version meaning I can sync and work on the mobile version with full access on those projects which is great! I recommend getting the desktop version and then doing this to get the best of both worlds. The layout for the mobile version is more asthetically pleasing than the desktop version which looks like something form windows 95. Never the less, it’s nice to be able to work on the beats, boards etc and sync with final draft. The issue is the software is buggy on both the desktop and mobile version. I find that I have to rewrite a whole board due to the app crashing, or in some cases just not saving my work. Another issue with the board in the mobile version is that it’s not actually a board! Instead the board in on the side with all the detail on the other side taking up most of the space. Would be a better user experience all round if it was and actual board that you could look at fully. Pinch in and out to zoom in and out etc and then you can click and enter that particular board and add all the details. Definitely feels like they missed a trick here. The idea of a board is a tactil experience, just like on a tablet. Hopefully this gets fixed, otherwise, great app for what it does.

Method is great. Price isn’t!

This app could be a great writing tool but full access is too expensive which is a shame. I bought the original book and the more recent Save The Cat! Writes a Novel. I love the method, techniques and examples you get from the book. There is even more content on their website. It would be great if you automatically gained access to the app with your purchase of the book. I will definitely use the basic outlining available for free but I won’t be purchasing the packages unless the price drops significantly.

Is there a legitimate reason for no Core i3 support?

I write on the go, so my goal was to sync my work on my mobile with my MacBook. But unfortunately ‘STC’ is unable accomplish what Final Draft does just fine. Had I known beforehand I won’t have purchased. That’s a shame.

Marvelous Tool!

Misha Penelope on

This is the sort of application any novelist may hope for (along with the book, Saves the Cat Writes a Novel). Personally, this was the very tool I was hoping to find after reading the corresponding book! It is simple, sure, albeit this is one of those instances in which simple is all that is necessary, for such a tool will make sure all of the needed components are there, so that you can create a compelling story: how to ensure you capture & keep the attention of your readers is found within these tried-and-true blueprints. …If one is unfamiliar with story formulas, described in Saves the Cat Writes a Novel, this app may not seem helpful. Thereby it is best to either read the book first, or research what each ingredient is independently (& understand it) before proceeding to utilize this application as an outlining tool for your story. So appreciative of both of these tools; they are essential to all writers who’d like to know the winning recipe for a wonderful & impactful story. Thank you Saves the Cat team!

Between Save the Cat and Scrivener, writing would be harder.
