Can't go wrong!

Great scope to see the sky wonders easily and with essentially zero setup time. If you out grow it, it will been a great and inexpensive intro, and you can give it to a friend to start them., while you upgrade or retire from sky marveling.

Great — Until new Update

I have been using my S50 for a while now and it has been great. I’ve taken great photos of DSOs and Planetary photos. Recently the S50 got a new firmware update and I thought it was going to be great. However, the scope was now so much more sensitive to star trails and it randomly failed 5/6 shots. I hope they put our a new firmware update to fix this soon as this has made using the S50 almost impossible with how much longer I have to wait to get data.

Such wonderful updates

The new Intelligent Denoiser is awesome. The new mosaic/framing works well enough. I love my S50 so much more with these updates. I have never had any problem firmware updates working correctly.

Good app but could be better

I have had the Seestar S50 for about 3 months now and it’s a great value for what it is. The app is fairly intuitive and has many good features. I’ve used it for regular deep sky object capture and recently tried it in planetary mode (RAW video stacking) for Jupiter, and the new mosaic mode for larger objects such as Andromeda galaxy and the Pleiades. My two biggest feature requests would be 1) native support for equatorial mode, 2) fine control of exposure time. For the first feature request, I am certain that many people are using the Seestar on an equatorial wedge as I have done, and there are youtube video tutorials on how to do this. It’s great that the software works well enough to do this at a basic level. However without native support for an equatorial mode in the app, many sky targets will remain “below the horizon” according to the app, because in equatorial mode currently it believes the mount is at the north pole. It would be great if we could use equatorial mode and capture any target in the sky such as Orion Nebula or the Horsehead nebula, or other fainter targets that would benefit from long exposures and no field rotation. Please add this. For the second feature, fine control of exposure time, if would be nice to specify what exposure time the user wants to use. Or at least add 5sec increments. For example, with this focal length we should easily be able to get 15 sec exposures without star trailing for some targets. 20 sec is too long for most targets and 30 sec is really only useful in equatorial mode in my opinion (unless your target is exactly east or exactly west, and then only for that short window). Also, as this relates to the first feature, if equatorial mode is supported, it follows that more options longer than 30 sec are needed because there is no need to limit exposure to 30 sec in that mode. We should be able to do 1-2 min exposures (or maybe longer, depending on the precision of the polar alignment). Again, giving the user control of the exposure time would allow maximum flexibility for different applications or situations. Thanks for a great product. Let’s keep moving forward and improving it with the increment enhancements!

Great app for a fun scope

This is a really well put together app for a fun little scope that makes astrophotography accessible to anyone. My suggestions to improve the app further are 1) having the Compass Calibration prompt happen before leveling. 2) have a button to pull up more information about an object in the Sky Atlas. I’d like to be able to learn about something cool I find in the sky without having to go back and search for it.

Amazing quality

As a grandmother getting a late start on astrophotography, I am a HUGE fan of the Seestar S50. I’ve had it about 6 months & not only is the smart telescope actually smart, ZWO put out much appreciated updates on their app. The app itself is solid and mostly intuitive. YouTube and Cuiv the Lazy Geek can assist if you want more demonstrations than the app help screen. Cuiv is how I found out about this latest update that might negate my need to get the Dwarf3 for wider DSO’s like the Andromeda Galaxy. Keep up the great work guys!
