Sky Live is a great app for planning the star observations and for making gorgeous photos of the starry night sky. Lots of astronomers and night sky photographers worldwide have chosen the app to help them in planning their nights out for watching stars, planets and constellations.
All necessary info is available at once: what planets, bright stars and constellations will be above horizon at night, what the weather is like, what the visibility score is, and much more. After setting the location you can check the stargazing index for the whole week ahead and learn the best time for the night out.
The unique index for stargazing conditions is calculated hourly and renews each time you start the app. The index depends on the following criteria:
The Sky Live app works in pair with Star Walk 2 that means you can see the chosen object in the sky and check more info about its’ path through the night sky. Sky Live also has an Apple Watch extension to alert you of upcoming astronomical events and tell you what’s going on in the sky over your location at the moment, e.g. ISS flyby or bright Iridium flare.
"For stargazers, Sky Live is exactly the app we've always needed to find out just how much of the stars we can see at night and when we'll be able to see our favourite constellations and planets." by Nathan Snelgrove, AppStorm.net.
Stunning space photos combined with everything you need to know about stargazing conditions for your location tonight. Stargazer or not - this app will spark your curiosity.
The most accurate hourly conditions for stargazing are estimated on seven criteria and summarized in one Stargazing Index that will give you all the information you need to make your plans. The formula was developed by a mathematician on the Star Walk team and takes into account:
- Is there anything interesting in the sky tonight?
- Can I see Saturn?
- Is it going to be cloudy?
- Is it going to rain?
- Too much light?
- Is the Moon too bright for stargazing?
You will also get detailed reports on position and trajectory of the International Space Station, the Sun, the Moon, Jupiter and other planets. The forecast is available for seven days ahead.

Terrible
Complete crap! Tells me 39%, poor visibility, completely clear skies, not a loud in sight. Couple of nights ago it said 75%, good visibility, completely cloudy, couldn’t see a single star. It’s as if it’s days behind or location is completely wrong. Garbage. These must be the same people that predict the weather.
Great app but serious limitations
I love the accuracy of this app in terms of its prediction but locations are seriously limited. I go to dark sky preserves that I cannot find in the app and that fact alone renders the app useless for me. However, when I am at the location, the app shows the correct location and accurate forecast. Such a great app! Wish this issue with limited locations is resolved in the future.
Limited locations
Great app, but the locations are limited and there is no way to manually enter latitude and longitude. So if you don’t live in a huge city, good luck finding that location.
Used to like it
At first it worked just fine on my iPhone X
But now in keeps crashing at least twice before it even opens and I don’t know why.
Very limited locations in Canada
Would love to purchase the paid version if more locations in Canada are added to the list
Demo version does not have sky viewing features
The title pretty much sums it up. I’d love to review how well it tracks the satellites and displays stars/planets on the sky, but it seems I need the full (paid) version.
Very nice
Love the interface. Combination of beautiful and useable!
Fantastique
Merveille de programmation et de connaissance de L’astronomie
Félicitations c’est très enrichissant
