SmallFish Chess for Stockfish Reviews

Don’t bother

Even at the lowest setting, it’s completely impossible to beat the computer.

It’s a chess genius!

drhypnos on

I’ve used all sorts of computer chess programs, from M-Chess, to Shredder, and my favourite, HIARCS. But this kicks the stuffing out of all of them. A brilliant app and an impossible to beat engine.

Excellent!!!

Excellent Program!!!

Good free analysis

Killoranges15 on

Good free analysis that I use to study openings, would be much better if I could link with chess.com account and analyze games that I import from there.

For every chess player who wants to improve

If you want to know where you went wrong and want to improve your play then you need this app Thank you Ted for such a wonderful app and continually keeping it up to date.

Great chess app for analysis

Tyrlumin on

Canada

It’s a great chess app for quick analysis, don’t need to boot up a PC or rely on some program in the cloud. Very smooth interface on an iPad, but less so on an iPhone simply because there is less screen space.

No ad, multiple levels

You now find the best chess app with no advertising and no in app purchases. But the level beginner is so hard to battle. Thank you so much, you are a great kind developer.

It’s a stripped-down, and no-nonsense UI

…for the stockfish engine. Mr. T. Wong, thanks for posting it, eh. While I like using chess apps with many fancy animations (Mastersoft Chess), Smallfish does (the proverbial) 1 task — provides a UI for this fascinating engine. Nice!

Great app

Magnus Carlsens brother on

Great app once you figure it out. It’s good to practice lines and new openings and the deal breaker is that it’s completely free. My only problem is the chess elo I have selected plays too easily even after selecting my exact level and difficulty that’s the only thing I think should be fixed. Overall this app is a 4.5 stars for me

Good overall

KC The Taco Man on

Canada

I’d rate this app a 4.5 because it’s a great chess app especially paired with Chess Tactics. Analyzing lines and whatever else just works. Only annoying things is opening the app with your phone in horizontal, like when you’re lying down, at least from chess tactics makes you have to reopen the app. Also the chess elo thing for playing against a bot; I don’t know if I used it wrong or not but I feel like an 100-500 elo level bot shouldn’t be playing better than my opponents in the 1000 range. All in all, good app for reviewing games if you know where to look and all that. Hopefully the horizontal thing gets fixed though
