Sol: Sun Clock

Daylight Forecaster & Alarm

Published by: Juggleware

Description

What time is sunset today? Or sunrise tomorrow? When is the "magic hour" next March 20 in Paris? With Sol, you can check times and get reminders of solar events, at home or while traveling! Great for everyone looking to plan activities based on sunlight. Use it to remind you to walk the dog before dark, get up with the sun, or find golden hour time for that perfect photo.
Sol: Sun Clock is the Swiss-army knife of sunlight tools with a design inspired by the simplicity of the sundial. Use it to plan your day, guide natural sleep cycles, get the best light for outdoor photography, make sure animals or kids are safe inside before dark, or to map out the best times to go running or fishing.
* Be in tune: Sol will tell you when the golden hour is, how much sunlight you have left in the day or what time the next sunrise occurs.
* Look to the future, travel around the world: Sol lets you find sunlight information for any date, anywhere on earth.

* Find solar midnight and solar noon, and all three twilight (dawn and dusk) periods: astronomical twilight, nautical twilight, and civil twilight. Keep tabs on the next solstice and equinox.

* Reminders and Alarms: Use Sol as a natural alarm clock that you can set to any event (like sunset, golden hour or solar noon), and the alarm or reminder time will adjust gradually as the days change with the seasons.

* Automatic Location: Sol not only calculates the amount of daylight and sunrise and sunset times, but does so for any location in the world (both Northern and Southern hemispheres) by using your device's GPS... no network connection required.
* Other locations: Optionally, use the built-in map to choose any location in the world by moving the pin, or search using the name of any city.

* Optional location-aware alarms. Sol knows when you change with your location; and as you travel it will adjust any alarms you set relative to sunrise and sunset times. Create alarms for multiple locations around the world.
* Detailed almanac information: Useful information about the day's length, sun's azimuth and elevation, equinoxes and solstices, and a friendly glossary that explains all the terms.
Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. However, GPS runs in the background ONLY if you have set location-aware alarms.

It also looks good, is carefully thought out, and customizable where it should be without bloat. Great little app.

i hope this app stays for a long time—been using since 2013 and still love its simplicity and graphic beauty. i like the alarms, i use to stay in tune w/ solar noon and sunset. the round graphic helps me digest the phases of light, is fun to use.

Lifesaving

If only I let this app influence my actual life more than I have. I plan to write about this because it is so important not to let the clock rule our lives.

Fix Needed

JamFL on

I’ve been using this app for several years now. Noticed after updating my iPhone to IOS 18.0, that selecting a day other than today is not correct…seems to be a month ahead. For example, if I want to check what time Sunrise occurs on October 28th, I have to select September 28th to get the correct time.

Golden Hour

I love this app. I am alerted when the golden hour is happening which is a great time to take pictures. It indicates the hours in the day and night and the seasons.

Best app ever!

One of my most indispensable apps. The interface is user-friendly and the information is unbelievable. I’m a photographer and an earth scientist, and I can’t even begin to explain how valuable this app is. If I have a smart device, this app will be on it!

Simple yet useful

K33mun on

A surprisingly useful little app. Find solar noon and apply sunblock before you cook. Use it to find the right time to take scenic photos. I imagine there are other uses as well. Simple to use also. 2 years later App is still under active development. The interface has been tweaked a bit to add some polish. Still very good at what it does. Sometimes an app doesn't need to have a million different functions. Simple can be awesome. A few years later: still awesome, still being polished. Super app for photography.

Priceless!

First, I used this to help me get more in tune with the sun’s position each day, but for the last year or so, I’ve been crafting my days with this app. Alerts for: Morning sunrise; UVA rise (10degrees above horizon); start dinner (2 hrs before sunset); finish eating & add orange glasses (sunset); go to bed! I’m so grateful for the rhythm and awareness this app has established. One hope is that the platform will allow them to expand the number of days that the app can generate alerts after the app is opened. Now it stops alerting after about 10 days, so I have to remember to reopen the app every week or so. It’s a minor inconvenience for the gain received! Hopes: I love that the alerts window gives the time for the next alert, but I really wish that it would sort by time! It would be so nice to see the day ahead.

NOTIFICATIONS: Sometimes No means NEVER!

wittol2b on

What part of “No” is confusing regarding notifications? Not now, not later, not ever, at any time, under any circumstance: I don’t want any notifications, even if they each accompany a simultaneous $100 direct deposit into my personal Apple account! No Notifications!

I’m a time nerd.

I use this app several times a week. Love it!
