Description

Tardigrain is a granular synthesiser for iOS that runs standalone or as an AU plugin. Sounds are created by taking smaller fragments of a sample and playing them back in a non linear fashion, with settings for grain size, direction, step size and more. Process the sound further through effects like reverb, wave shaper and sample crush. Tardigrain supports connections with AudioCopy, AudioBus, Inter App Audio and AUv3. Plus all audio parameters can be modulated by MIDI, as AU parameters and by aftertouch on the build in keyboard. Now also a selected set of parameters can be modulated by LFOs och notes triggered by a new sequencer/arpeggiator.
+++ Record your own samples or import using AudioCopy/drag'n drop
+++ Chromatic granualar playpack
+++ Effects (Wave shaper, Reverb, Sample crusher, Pitch and stereo spread)
+++ Resonant filter (low, band and high pass)
+++ Keyboard and MPE modulation of any audio parameters
+++ Note trigger sequencer/arpeggiator
+++ 4 LFO sources for modulating a selected set of parameters
+++ Multiple factory presets to get you started
+++ Save and load your own settings and samples
+++ Inter App Audio, AudioBus and AUv3
+++ Core MIDI, Inter App Audio MIDI and AUv3 MIDI

tardigrain Reviews

Unique granular synth

I love this developer!?! Always great innovative, unique, original style and flavor to all his apps. They are all so phenomenal and aesthetically appealing. No labels or bunch of text so it makes it easy to just explore and play around. Great for happy accidents!?! Keep up the great work!?!

Legendary Developer

This dev Eric is the real deal. We appreciate every single project offered by him and they are consistently used in our studio of high end gear. Eric’s instruments may not have every single modern bell and whistle but they are intuitive and translate well to Elektron samplers or any hardware sampler. - The use cases are seemingly infinite. - The code is memory efficient and runs smoothly. - They play nicely with your workflow. - Farmable sounds, effects, experimentation.. I hope this developer get into making hardware because he would literally be the next Soma.

Time for a new review. First, Tardigrain has been around a lot longer than the 5-year App History implies. :-) What? Some 15-18 years? I found Tardigrain now long after it first was released. Way before Alligoopa’s demise. My first Allihoopa offering was from Tardigrain. Several Japanese members were excited that not only did I know of the tiny beast AND I made a song to them. lol I have always had Tardigrain on my mobile device! There still isn’t anything quite like it on the App Store. It’s other worldly and under worldly! It’s simple but affective. Keep thinking out of the box! (And very stable standalone playing in the background with other apps while I read on iOs.)

This app is amazing but…

Please fix the issue that causes the microphone to be on after closing the app. It should only be on while recording

Just updated to the 1.1.0 version. Pitch bend now? Yes, yes and yes! Also, appreciate the UI changes, it was greatly needed. Great job on developing & supporting your app! Tardigrain & rymdigare are my desert island apps!

Good, but black borders are looking bad

Thanks for such an awesome tool, but it’s looks like outdated on the new iPhones. It’s would be 5/5 if there no borders on the sides.

Awesome

This is easily one of the best music app out there. Super fun to use, beautifully designed and most importantly it sounds great!

Good for weirdness

It can make sounds from very weird to quite musical.

Love this synth but...

Thanks for the new update! But!!! Please make microphone monitor recallable for saved sessions. This is one of my favorite reverbs as an auv3 effect but i have to open each instance and “press” the monitor button to activate the the reverb effect. Thanks so much!
