Description

Tardigrain is a granular synthesiser for iOS that runs standalone or as an AU plugin. Sounds are created by taking smaller fragments of a sample and playing them back in a non linear fashion, with settings for grain size, direction, step size and more. Process the sound further through effects like reverb, wave shaper and sample crush. Tardigrain supports connections with AudioCopy, AudioBus, Inter App Audio and AUv3. Plus all audio parameters can be modulated by MIDI, as AU parameters and by aftertouch on the build in keyboard. Now also a selected set of parameters can be modulated by LFOs och notes triggered by a new sequencer/arpeggiator.
+++ Record your own samples or import using AudioCopy/drag'n drop
+++ Chromatic granualar playpack
+++ Effects (Wave shaper, Reverb, Sample crusher, Pitch and stereo spread)
+++ Resonant filter (low, band and high pass)
+++ Keyboard and MPE modulation of any audio parameters
+++ Note trigger sequencer/arpeggiator
+++ 4 LFO sources for modulating a selected set of parameters
+++ Multiple factory presets to get you started
+++ Save and load your own settings and samples
+++ Inter App Audio, AudioBus and AUv3
+++ Core MIDI, Inter App Audio MIDI and AUv3 MIDI

Simply brilliant

There’s a fair few granular synths/players on iOS now. This is one my favourite

This is a fantastic and intuitive creative tool. Musical, fun and deep potential for soundscapes to explore. 5 stars doesn't do it justice, dive in and enjoy ❤️

Needs a tweak

TheWightGuy on

Lots to like here, and some fabulous sounds can be imagineered. The only Robles is that it is flaky as hell when it comes to retaining AU3 settings. Which rather defeats the purpose of AU3. Fix this, and its an easy 5 star app.

Loving the new UI.

Tardigrain was always a favourite of mine, mainly for it's strangeness and quirky sounds it could make. However the UI was always a bit of an outlier in that it took some getting used to. Well role on today and the new UI has added a much needed shuffle, rearranging the UI elements into a far more logical grouping. As usual, the App also provides an outstanding granular synth that can make any sound into an interesting instrument. For instance, I took the sound of the WITCH computer at Bletchley Park and turn it into a chello sound. With AUv3 and stand alone there is a version for all seasons. It can also mix live input with granular synth, making for some awesome soundscapes. So get out there and see what you can come out with, the app is well priced and will give you very interesting results in a short time.

Break the rules of music

If you feel like moving away from structured music then buy this app. It took me months to appreciate it. The controls seem a little bonkers at first but it is fascinating. My tip is to play one note in ‘hold’ mode, scroll though your sample whilst adjusting the different controls. The developer has provided a multitude of sonic options and it is purely up to the user how they can be manipulated. And it’s AUV3. Ace.

Deep Creative Potential

I hubb on

E most creative for making This app is one of the deeper sound Art type music. Every time I open this wonderful tool it never ceases to excite BUT if the crashes in Audiobus could be ironed out, as well as bpm Ableton sync with other apps it would be perfect hence not quite 5 stars. I am sure this will be fixed in future updates.

Interesting, but very basic

Sunburst335 on

Another grain synth app which is interesting and pleasant to use for a while, but does not have enough depth to keep my interest for long. It would help if the standalone app could play over Bluetooth headphones, but sadly, this is not the case.

Nice sounding granular but big issues

Mmmmaybe on

Sounds great but can’t share patches between devices or between standalone and AU in same device. A real shame :(
