Taskmator - TaskPaper Client

TM used to be a slick and pleasant app to use. I don’t know what has happened to this app. I open app, press + button for new file - Crashes! Followed instructions person put in Jul review :( Nothing, keeps crashing! A shame, really, this was stalwart years ago. The outliner genre of apps waves farewells to you.

This is a great app when it works. It has sophisticated swiping options, though getting it to perform the one you want is a matter of pot luck. The real challenge is with adding new events. The app‘s typing function adds characters at the rate of about one every two seconds. You type ahead to some extent, but it is hard to predict how much it will remember, and then you are left waiting for when you will be able to type a few more characters. It seems unnecessarily frustrating. UPDATE July 2022 I have tried reinstalling the app as suggested, indeed more than once, but no avail. In fact, recently the app has developed real problems with accessing Dropbox files, even files that the Dropbox app on my iPhone has no trouble accessing. I would be happy to correspond with the developer about these problems, but he does not reply to emails. It’s sad to see once decent app decline so.

I couldn't figure out even the most basic tasks. Swiping left to mark a task done hardly ever works. Too easy to accidentally move a task when trying to scroll the window. Overall more trouble than it's worth.

The whole point of Taskpaper plain-text format is its simplicity. The user interface for this app is anything but simple; it’s mind-boggling. The gestures and keyboard shortcuts make no sense at all. Cmd-K to edit an existing task, seriously? Why not Enter (it’s not being used for anything else). Highlighting multiple tasks with the keyboard is totally confusing, and every time I try to add a due date my swiping, I end up changing the indent of the task in question. The UI needs a complete re-think.

Tried editing a large iCloud TaskPaper file, it came up blank and was saved as blank back to iCloud. Wanted to speak to developer first but App Store link opens YouTube and privacy link opens Dropbox… Not a good start and not a good end.

Horrible app - horrible design. Cheap and still not worth it. The UI is terrible and there's no way to just focus on a single task list that you've saved in Dropbox or iCloud. This app really is a waste of time and money

Great app, just what I've been looking for. The developer was quick to respond when I asked about the folding paper from task paper bring implemented, and said it may be on the horizon. If it gets that then the app is perfect! Fantastic for now

Taskmator is now my trusted iOS companion of TaskPaper (on MacOS). Highly recommended for TaskPaper fans.

Taskmator is TaskPaper but better: if you like the whole plain-text-productivity thing, and you want to do it on iOS, you want this app. It works better than TaskPaper ever did and has significant new features, such as automagic reminders for tasks. It's not perfect -- which apps are? -- but it's good, and the maintainer is responsive to bug reports. There have been reviews accusing him of 'just picking up dead apps and reviving them' as if that's a bad thing: for people who rely on those apps it's not: it's a good thing. I wish he'd pick up FoldingText too! I am really, really glad this app exists: if you used TaskPaper on iOS you will be as well.
