Pricey

Lost Lily on

As another international buyer (I’m Australian) I hate paying for ridiculous postage costs when buying a physical copy. I have previously bought “damaged” items (this was disclosed before and priced as such), however, the shipping brought it to over it’s normal selling price, and even more after converting to AUD. It costs $37.14 AUD for 1-2 Lbs just for shipping. So, I thought I would try the digital app, and although it’s very aesthetically pleasing, the prices are even MORE when buying through the app. For example, I wanted to purchase the WAIT DEVOTIONAL. The physical copy costs $28.56 AUD (not including shipping) and the digital costs $30.99 AUD. Which personally I believe a digital copy ALONE should cost less than its counterpart. However, having previously purchased a physical devotional, the physical quality is really nice, but that’s really all I can say about it.

Plain and expensive

Cptn Fantastic on

Very plain app that integrates the company’s blog posts (in the form of relentless blocks of text that end with three Instagrammable pictures) and studies into one place. So many issues with this app but I will start with the biggest: the price point for each study is way too high for digital items that require no printing, packing or posting. Not only are the prices high, you have to create an account with the company before you can purchase material in the app, so to access the studies on the app you need an Apple account AND a DGco account. Ease of purchase was not a consideration, but I can only assume the choice was made so purchases could be logged and tracked on the website. In the free samples I checked out, you get one long block of text for the study, a blank “reflect” section that will eventually load three questions and give space to type your answer (where those personal comments go I do not know) and the only picture (bar the banner) is an Instagram sized quote on the discussion page. In the sample, you can click to read the scripture, which pulls up a Bible, which is one positive. There are many, many Bible study ebooks that are cheaper and can be purchased with less effort. The app doesn’t even attempt to compete with those. Given the plainness of the app studies vs the lush look of their printed versions, it is a no brained to pick the slightly higher price of the book + postage, which I’d personally say would be better value. I’m Australian, and the App Store quoted the in-app purchases at $30.99 on the App Store page, though the app quotes the price as $19.99. I believe the disparity is related to the exchange rate but regardless of the individual study prices, nothing provided in the app or samples justifies such a large price. There is an integrated community forum in the app, which is a bonus but this can be obtained through the DGco Facebook page. There are a generous total of two free lock screens you can download and a link to their store (which opens your browser and directs you not to the store, but the front page of the company website). I didn’t want to write such a negative review on a product from such a great company, but this app is an underwhelming product from a company with a reputation of creating lush resources.
