The essential tool for all musicians playing traditional Irish, Scots, Welsh and Breton music!
Ever sat in a trad session and wondered what was the name of that great tune someone just played? Well now you can search a database of over 22,000 tunes from your iPhone/iPod BY PLAYING!
Hold your device up to a melody instrument such as the tin-whistle, flute, concertina, uilleann pipes, accordion or banjo, hit record and the melody will be extracted and submitted to the tunepal.org search engine for matching.
Matching tunes are downloaded to your device, where you can view and edit the notation or the stave, email the tune, post it to facebook or play it back using the high quality playback engine based on ABC2MIDI and FMOD.

Doesn’t work
Bought Tunepal for my iPhone (which has over 15GB free and the IOS is up To date). Every time l use the app it falls over and closes. Not happy and definitely do not recommend. Awaiting promised refund (yeah not an expensive app it if it doesn’t work is worth nothing)
Feedback
I love the app but how do you access favourites? What's the point of having a favourites tab if can't access them?
Excellent!!!
Works great! Now I know the names of the tunes I want to learn.
Doesn't Work - Period!
Out of dozens of nice clear Irish tunes I got this to work on one solitary tune! I would be happy to pay good money if the desighners put some good solid development effort into it. Btw, the tune? The Kesh Jig - wow. Don't waste your time.
Love it
Trad and iPhone all in one. What more can you ask for. Great job!
Great application for sessioners
This is a fabulous application that is perfect for players wanting to identify tunes to learn and add to their repertoire.
I use it every week at my local session. The experienced players often check in with me. 'what's the machine think that one is?'.
I've been able to identify and then learn what is being played locally rather than just pick a few off some albums or from books and hope others know them. So I play much more often and am improving my playing faster than I was before I download Tunepal. It's the most useful application on my iPhone!
Tunepal
Care needs to be taken in recording, if in a session try to get close to a strong clean player. Some instruments work better than others, flute is good. Latest version with horizontal dots is grand. Though not guaranteed to be right every time the App is a great aid to those who don't know one of those few people who can name every tune. Worth the money for the fun alone, and you have to admire the technology. It's the closest thing to having a computer think for itself I have encountered and this makes the wrong calls endearing.
