Ever sat in a trad session and wondered what was the name of that great tune someone just played? Well now you can search a database of over 22,000 tunes from your iPhone/iPod BY PLAYING!

Hold your device up to a melody instrument such as the tin-whistle, flute, concertina, uilleann pipes, accordion or banjo, hit record and the melody will be extracted and submitted to the tunepal.org search engine for matching.

Matching tunes are downloaded to your device, where you can view and edit the notation or the stave, email the tune, post it to facebook or play it back using the high quality playback engine based on ABC2MIDI and FMOD.

Doesn’t work at all

This app crashes immediately after recording on my iPhone11. I’d heard of it and known people using it 10 years ago but seems it’s no longer working

Avoid crashes.

Do not buy this. It crashes when submitting. No contact information to ask for a refund. Total scam.

Fabulous!

What an amazingly useful app this is for anyone trying navigate the vast seas of traditional folk tunes. Thank you, thank you Bryan Duggan for providing such a fantastic resource. I will be having hours of fun with this app!

Hopeless

Downloaded last night, Has yet to correctly identify ANY tunes whatsoever, tested with Princess Royal, harpers frolic, Bonnie Kate, the London Hornpipe etc etc all from recordings by professional melodeon players.

Not working

Downloaded but it doesn’t work on iPad. Very disappointing and there is no way to get a refund!

Useless

Didn’t work for me. Tapped all over the screen and it wouldnt record. Waste of money!

Does not even distinguish jigs from reel

I just bought this App and applied it to recorded session music as well as to individual tunes I played on the fiddle. It only recognized one tune out of 15! Often it suggested both jigs and reels!! The recorded session tunes were quite clear and played by some of the most respected musicians in London. Very disappointing!!

Just the job

Quite often, as a folk musician, I will find myself with a tune that I cannot identify going round in my head. Previously I would have had to wait to meet up with friends and then hummed the tune to see if anyone else knew its name. Now, I simply play or hum it into the Mike and the software comes up with a list of options. Excellent !!!!

Expected better for £2.99

Not impressed so far. Tried this on a music box I have and it's come up with different results every time and not a single one correct. Also, whenever I try to view the details of a second result it hangs on the loading symbol.
