Galactic happy snaps

CptApathy on

This is the junior Hubble! Very simple and powerful. I’d love it if we could upgrade parts eg sensor to keep it up to date. The cost is too much to upgrade the whole unit. Also integrating with existing apps such as SkySafari would be great for a larger database. Overall this is an awesome piece of equipment especially for sharing the fun with others.

Amazing; however the software requires improvement.

The technological achievement of the Unistellar hardware blows me away, however the software can be better and be made more appealing to the more seasoned amateurs out there: - perhaps develop a professional interface as an option that drops the “street name” of some objects in favor of the M or NGC or IC designation, etc, celestial location and constellation, all embedded in a rectangular frame with date, time, observing location details and some free text field for comments… make the interface less child like and more like the picture has been taken by a pro… - whilst the range of objects is good, I think the app should be able to interact with other software out there or public databases that will increase the range of objects ad infinitum (such as Cartes du Ciel’s ability to use public databases). The need to go to other software or star atlas and then manually enter celestial location details was rather frustrating for me. - % battery left instead of just a picture. - using router home secured wifi instead of just a direct unsecured connection between the scope and the tablet / phone. Otherwise I love the scope :)

App & Scope a Game-changer!

Designer Dave on

It took someone new to re think how a modern Telescope and App could make Stargazing and Astrophotography easily accessible to everyone. The incumbent’s (Meade, Celestron etc) scopes have changed little over the years with only incremental changes since the 1980’s. Along came Unistellar with an integrated telescope design that is fully portable (10 hour battery) and fully automated. Connect it to your smartphone or tablet via WiFi, press a button and in 10 seconds it’s aligned, browse a graphical and intuitive menu and the scope finds your target with pinpoint accuracy, press another button and in seconds spectacular Galaxies and Nebula start appearing - stacked and light pollution reduced in real-time. I liken this product to Apple’s breakthrough iPhone design that set the benchmark for all phones after. Apple may have not invented all the tech, but they packaged it together in a unique and easy to use design that was a game-changer, like this product. This scope appeals to total beginners and experienced alike, and puts the fun back into a hobby that complex equipment set-ups often take away. Highly recommended!

Constantly drops out and looses track. Image poor if you can remain connected for long enough. My $789 Meade LX65 out performs the EV! Not impressed.
