Troubleshooting

I experienced similar frustration with Audi UTR VERSION 2 connection issues and Apple CarPlay but thankfully I have been able to resolve my connection problems. I have a 2024 Q3 Sportback with wireless Apple CarPlay , iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 18.4. My connection problems were caused by Apple wireless connection privacy features preventing the Audi UTR configuring the iPhone wireless connection correctly. The following steps worked for me using Audi ver 2 UTR. 1. Temporarily disable Apple CarPlay In iPhone ‘Settings, General, CarPlay’ 2. In iPhone ‘Settings, Wireless’ connect iPhone to Audi UTR wireless network and then click on the blue ‘ i ’ symbol next to the UTR network name to open the network connection configuration. 3. Scroll down and locate the section header ‘ IPV4 ADDRESS’ and make a note of the Router IP address. This will be 4 sets of numbers separated by a period. Eg 192.168.1.1 - yours may be different. 4. Scroll down and locate section header ‘DNS’. 5. DNS is set to configure ‘Automatic’ by default. Click on ‘Automatic’ to examine the DNS IP configuration, if there is no number in the list of ‘DNS Servers’, select manual and manually enter the Router Address noted earlier in ‘IPV 4 ADDRESS’ section. 6. Now open the iPhone Audi UTR app, the app should connect to the Audi UTR using the default password. 7. If you have Audi infotainment plus the Audi UTR app can be configured to connect via the car Wireless Hotspot. 8. In the Audi UTR app, open ‘Settings, Wi-Fi’ and select connect via car wireless hotspot. 9. Add ‘_5GHz’ to the end of the car WiFi hotspot name eg. Audi_MMI_XXX_5GHz now enter the car wi-fi password. This ensures that Audi UTR uses the same 5GHz frequency as Apple CarPlay. 10. Close the Audi UTI app and re-enable Apple CarPlay in iPhone settings. 11. Now when Apple CarPlay connects wirelessly, Audi UTR will connect via the same 5GHz wireless hotspot and the iPhone Audi UTR app will be able to connect to the Audi UTR. 12. Remember to close the Audi UTR app when you have finished configuring or viewing recordings to close the connection between the Audi UTR and the iPhone. I am now able to connect to the Audi UTR VER 2 without needing to disable Audi CarPlay first. The above steps may help others. I don’t know if the app developers monitor feedback but if so perhaps Audi could provide information by way of FAQ or at the very least provide technical support to dealerships installing the Audi UTR.

If it won’t connect, try this. It has to have power on (red light). Open MMI on dash, click settings cog, connections, connection manager, on known devices click the cog, click disconnect device. Once Apple car play is disconnected go into WiFi settings on phone and connect to the dash cam. Then open dash cam app. Once finished disconnect WiFi from dash cam and click the Apple play button MMI to reconnect. The car constantly trying to connect/reconnect to Apple car play even if it looks like it’s not connected on the phone is what was stopping me being able to connect to the cam.

Will not connect

The app is possible the worst ever dashcam app. It will not connect to the dashcam, even when it does, you can't watch the recordings without downloading them, which takes forever! The dash cam cost over £800 to have installed, what a waste off money, better off getting a £50 camera from temu.

Incompetent Software

Seems Audi send the apps out with untested software like t software on there cars. An app that doesn’t connect to the dash cam is a piece of garbage & this wont connect for who knows what reason doesn’t even accept updates just shows you a notification without installing it🤦‍♂️ It’s difficult to be polite and describe just how awful this software is. German engineering really has gone downhill. Nov 24 still utter garbage (audiutr wants to connect to Audiutr, audiutr cannot connect to audiutr 🤦‍♂️🤬🤬. Everyone connected with this utter farce should be sacked

Whilst the picture quality is on you can only see it on a PC when reading the ad card. Won’t connect to smartphone at all. Come on Audi make it easy to connect to a phone.

I don’t get it. I simply don’t get it.

Audi with its global reach and access to a wealth of resource, knowledge and wisdom, still can not deliver an app to connect and function as it should. Since the purchase and install of a front and rear camera system at my local dealership I have not been able to use this app to connect with with my UTR. It is so poor that even the Audi engineer admitted how abysmal the app was. For the last two months I’ve been trying to connect to the camera system to configure it as it still in the same mode it was installed. Every single attempt gets an unable to connect dialogue. It’s depressing. The point that really need’s highlighting here is that this behaviour is being shared by users online and appears to have been going on for a number years. One doesn’t have to look far to find these frustrated Audi community websites. But no-one is listening it seems! I have ow given up. I have taken steps to secure a refund. I am more than happy to return the hardware and for Audi to make good my Vehicle pre install. I’m sure others have a different experience, however I would not recommend this app. Is there anyone at Audi prepared to own this epic disappointment, also know as Audi UTR?
