Description

Sonic texture generator / blur / non-linear reverb
*** WARNING ***
Velvet Machine is an Audio Unit v3 plugin and requires a compatible host such as GarageBand, AUM, Cubasis, Audiobus etc. The provided standalone app does NOT support the currently deprecated Inter-App Audio.
***
Velvet Machine is a CPU-intensive effect at high settings. A *minimum* of 5th Gen iPad, iPhone 6s or 1st Gen iPhone SE is required to run a single instance at maximum settings. However, shorter times and/or lower densities use much less CPU.
***
Velvet Machine is a unique audio effect based on real-time convolution with enveloped velvet noise. It's designed to:
- Stretch and blur out even short sounds to lengths of up to 10 seconds
- Produce reverb-like textures with flexible volume envelope (including reverse, fading in and out, pulsating etc.)
- Work as a variable density random multi-tap delay (bordering on granular-like sounds)
PDF manual and video demos are available on developer website.
Features:
- Flexible volume envelope with arbitrary number of segments and curvature
- Effect time ranging from 50 ms to 10 s
- Response density adjustable from 1 to 2000 repeats per second
- Predelay up to 1 s
- Host tempo sync for time and predelay parameters
- High cut and low cut filters for the effected signal
- Mix adjustable from 100% dry to 100% wet
- Mix Lock to switch presets while keeping the dry/wet mix constant

Velvet Machine Reviews

Lush and subtle

TheWightGuy on

Why does anyone need another app like this? Because this is not like any other app of its type. Seriously, if what you are looking for is an app that has that special difference, something that can be used on a component of a track to produce a unique texture, then this is the app you are looking for. Fabulous.

My new go-to app

Hobbsy901 on

I wasn’t convinced that I needed this one but took the plunge anyway, and am so glad that I did! Whether playing guitar or keyboard through my IPad, this has become the first effect that I reach for. Thank you to the dev for an absolute peach of a reverby thang!

Wow!! Exactly what I was looking for. I’ve got plenty of shimmer Apps but this is different. I added it to the master bus of a A finished track and and it transformed it completely. Love it

A confession

I feel asleep listening to Gavinskis tutorial of this app...I usually pay attention to things of interest but woke up to the most chilling vocal soundscape I had heard for a long while. Super cool ..sonic impact ..glad to be scared ...effects mostly should have an effect 👏👏👏👏. Anyways have spent several hours experimenting with this app and it’s a keeper......it leads you down or up sonic pathways and by ways you might never have thought of...it’s Velvet Definitely recommended 🙏👏👏👏🎩🦄

Better than Your Reverb

Codowlsky Polopumus on

I don’t care what reverb you’re using. This is better (or at least as good). It’s more fun than a reverb because well - you get to draw your envelope and the system for this is epic. Come one, come all. Put your spring reverb in the garage where it belongs, call your neighbors, tell them you’re playing their new favorite song.

Sounds like nothing else

Lovely and so simple to use.

Amazing for Ambient Music

I highly recommend this auv3 plugin - there’s a lot you can do with it to create interesting soundscapes. It can go a bit hard on the processor but that is understandable. The presets do a great job of showcasing what is possible and act as good places to start off from - a ‘Stretch too Far’ and ‘Cascades’ are my favorite for creating soothing ambient tracks. I’ve been running miRack, Spacecraft, Model 15, etc. into it and getting great results out.

Nonlinear Heaven!

Gamer737jetplane on

This replaced an old 90s Ensoniq unit that I only use for the nonlinear reverbs. Brilliant! Bought it for desktop too. Love the sounds it can produce. Keep up the great work!
