Description

VideoCalc is The tool that will help you design Home Theaters in a consistent, quick and easy way.
It makes all the tedious calculations a breeze and ensures you can get the desired information in an intuitive way.
This is a must have for Home Theater enthusiasts, custom installers, video professionals and more.
VideoCalc is made up of several tools, that each in its own right provide you with essential calculations but do work together, ensuring the effect of every component on the system is taken into account.
Furthermore the tools are organized in a natural progression, guiding you through the process of designing a Home Theater that follows the industry best practices and standards.
Start by defining your screen. The tool allows easy calculation of any screen dimension based on the others.
Support for usual aspect ratios is provided, allowing you to pick amongst a selection of the most commonly used aspects.
For a projection system, the next step tackles the projector part, defining the aspect ratio of the matrix and the optional usage of an anamorphic lens.
The tool shows you how the image will fit within the defined screen and the deformation that the anamorphic lens would apply to the projected image.
This is also a fantastic tutorial tool to understand anamorphic systems.
The next step takes care of projector placement and/or selection in regards to the throw ratio requirements.
Enter the throw ratio range of your projector and check it can be placed to work with your screen.
Alternatively, enter the distance from the screen where you wish to place your projector and the tool computes the required throw ratio.
This is perfect for selecting your lens on higher-end projectors.
The Luminance tab allows to find out how big the screen can be with a given projector or how bright your projector must be to light up the defined screen, while respecting the industry best practices.
With the Angle tab, validate that your field of view is in accordance with industry accepted standards such as THX or SMPTE.
VideoCalc works in both imperial and metric units. Simply swipe down to reveal the unit selection view, giving you the choice between centimeters, meters, inches and feet.
If you like this tool, be sure to also check AudioCalc, the companion tool addressing your audio needs.

But would be nice to lock two value fields.

Suggestion for Update

I like the app. It would be helpful, within the luminance tab, to add an option for square footage of screen, that would calculate lumens of projector needed based on the square footage of the screen using industry standard variable based on room lighting.

I use every day

This is the quickest way to get a screen dimension based on aspect ratio that I have found. If you need quick dims in the field then this is a great app to have in hand.

Good App but UI not optimised for OS8

Good App but UI not optimised for OS8. The fonts are all the way to the sides of the screen. Not sure why. The calculations are very good. I am not sure what is the difference between this app and the Sim2Calc though. This one does what I need. I needed to know given the size of my screen, what kind of throw, luminance and viewing distance are. It works nicely for what it says it does.

Great App

Used this for our event production company and it was a very useful tool

This is great!

This app is perfect for calculating how well a projector will preform or how bright a projector will need to be to work in a room. I was using an Excel spreadsheet in quick office but is was a pain to use. Thank you for making this app.

Needs to have linked parameters

This app is cool for doing simple math, but it would be more useful to have the parameters on the different pages linked in some way so that you know what happens to the brightness when you change the screen size or throw distance.

It does what it promise!

It works really well. I am a projector manufacturer and, when on the road, it helps tremendously for a calculation on the fly. Good Job! If you could only save Projector models with attached profiles...

Liked if but...

The app is great easy to use with the pages progressing to the right with more info. I used it to set up my projection system in my home theater, it's missing one thing though needs to have the size presets larger than 65". I was setting up my system in a room 18' deep. I had the WxH already to plug them in but having presets atleast up to 104" would be nice update eventually.
