Vocabulary Reviews

I love this app

Coldmoonsoda on

I might sound like a bot writing such a lovely review but I do adore this app. It is so pleasant to use and I love all the icon choices it gives you. It isn’t pushy and I enjoy that it’s not begging me to use it all the time like some apps. It’s just a nice little learning app and is very simple and engaging.

Charged BEFORE trial ended

I liked the app and thought it was nice but I was charged the day before the trial ended. I wasn’t intending to renew. This seems really scammy of the company.

Almost perfect

I initially gave it 2 stars because of a glitch that made collections not work, but they’ve since fixed it it’s a great app now. Worth the paywall in my opinion. I do wish that flashcards would only show words in the custom mix you’ve made, since that would make studying your collections easier, but flashcards are new so maybe that will come later

Wanted to like it but it’s sometimes inaccurate

Gveveyst on

United States

This app is great in theory, but I’ve noticed that a lot of the definitions are incomplete, misleading, or plain wrong. This has led me to having to cross check online, which is a waste of time. It’s great for prompting me with words that I might want to know the definition of, but since I can’t rely on the definition given, it’s really not more useful than that.

The transcriptions of words’ pronunciations are in British English but the recorded pronunciations are in American English and this really bothers me.

App is great, examples are oddly sexist?

___bbem on

United States

Ok I actually showed this to several people wondering if I was sensitive and we’re all in agreement. Everyday, when it provides me a word, the sample sentence is very oddly sexist - like the word “carp” being used to describe an annoying nagging wife when there are so many other uses of the word carp. If it happens once or twice, it’s unnoticeable, but when every single day the example sentence is something oddly and subtly sexist, it feels like it’s a literal design choice. Aren’t you as a company considering what sentences your including for these, and some of the insinuations that might come alongside? It’s become a sort of game in my social circle, where we all vote if the sentence is sexist, and almost everytime we all agree it is.

If you want to expand your lexicon range…

Love the design. Love it being generous to offer some free features so everyone can experience it! Love the new Español update! If the developers are looking to add more features in the future, maybe try adding Dutch words? But seriously, I can’t even finish the English ones, it’s just too much, lol.
