Volv Reviews

What an awesome concept

CMdeATL on

Puts random knowledge into the hands of hands others. Encourages knowledge seekers to create and share. Great app.

They removed the feature that made Volv what it was

This is my first time ever writing an app review because I’m so confused and upset. The point of the app was to give short, 9 second summaries of news so you can remain informed. I really liked it as it allowed me to scroll on it like a social media app, but instead of brainrot it allowed me know what’s going on in the world. It was awesome because it encouraged remaining informed and curiosity. If you wanted to know more about the topic whose news you just read, you could simply tap and it would take you to the source. I loved it because it would encourage me to learn more. But now, the feature to go to the source is gone…? Like, what’s the point anymore? How do I know if what I’m reading is legit? What’s the source? It’s frustrating if I want to read more and now I can’t. I don’t understand why they took that feature away :(

Well done

I have loaded dozens of news apps over the years. Most of those apps had famous names associated with the app. But I have only two or three that I still use. Volv is well written and in my opinion one of the best “ headline” news apps It will have a place on my Home Screen.

Super useful

It is kind of creepy, though. No one, not even the president, should be making decisions based on seven seconds worth of information.

Cut down your screen time!!

Use this app to stay up to date and cut your screen time. A winner in my book!

Removing links to the original story/thread was a bad move

charmon79 on

United States

The app is significantly less useful since removing the ability to follow a link to the original story or thread being summarized. I frequently want to read further and learn more about a particular story, but now I have to manually switch to another app and manually search for related articles. This eliminates most of the value of the Volv app for me. I also tried to submit this feedback via the “contact team Volv” feature within the app, but nothing happens when I tap the “send feedback” button after writing something. Y’all can do better. This app is no longer worth a paid subscription.

clickbait

i liked it initially but then their click bait headlines became racist and hella transphobic.

Good but has A TON of bugs..

brodah69 on

I’ve had the app for at least a year now, maybe longer. It constantly is unable to refresh the feed. Sometimes it just shows me nothing.. needs a lot of work

Was great, but no longer trustworthy

Webeye on

Until recently, this app did what a bite-size news app should: provide quick summaries of news items, along with source links so you can learn more. But now, they’ve removed source links. So the depth of the app is gone, as is any form of attribution. You can’t trust anything in the app, because you can’t see where it came from. At best, this is stealing content without crediting the source; at worst, they may be summarizing content from thoroughly untrustworthy sources and passing it off as truth. Or just making it up entirely. There’s no way to tell. Either way, the ability to read more was key. By embedding the link browser within the app, it made the entire experience sticky and valuable. Not anymore. The other changes to the app are fine. There’s a paid tier, and news items that are clearly ads. They need to monetize, and those are reasonable strategies. But I wouldn’t recommend the app to anybody now.
