Good but buggy
It solves the purpose for basic features but oftentimes says no internet connection. Need to open the app multiple times to make it work. Also no OTA option for me , no one seems to know why.

I’m on 1.7.1 version of the EX30 app based in the UK. The app is simple and aesthetically pleasing. But there are some major UX issues here. I’ve been experiencing problems with the car and Volvo Cars support advised that I remove the vehicle from the mobile app, wait, and then reconnect again. In the app, Profile > Connected cars should give the option to remove the car but annoyingly, the ‘remove’ option isn’t available there. So I’m unable to fix the issue and the Volvo Cars UK stopped responding to my messages. Another issue is that every few weeks I get signed out from the app. The signin requires 2FA with a code via email!!! This means that every time I have to switch back to the email client, find the message, select, copy, switch back to the app, paste the OTP. I struggled to understand why he couldn’t be OTP via text message or simply use biometrics. This is the most annoying auth experience on an app that I regularly use. It is therefore extremely frustrating to me.
If only my app would connect / work with my EX30 instead of “Could not prepare app “.
Having come from an Audi, whose app is truly awful, I was pleased to see that with Volvo the car reliably and quickly does what you ask in the app. However it is just limited…I mean you can see that car is plugged in charging but not how fast; you can turn on the climate control but only to the settings you last used. I would like to be able to turn on the climate, set the temp, enable seat heating and steering wheel heating etc. It just needs … more.
This app worked twice for unlocking and the heater, but now every function seems to fail with the red ‘could not…’ warning. How is it possible to get it so wrong when the car itself is great. The software in the car is taking more than the stated 3 weeks to perform its OTA update and even that has issues apparently eg removing the locking sound to a barely audible noise rather than give you options to change the volume or type. It shouldn’t be hard to change after creating a generally good working UI on the screen software.
Have to agree with another user review here. Having come from a Tesla M3 and their amazing app, Volvo’s own version falls embarrassingly short. Lacking much of the information and features, it’s only real use is to set the climate before departure but even that makes no sense. It states it sets the vehicle to a comfortable temperature - what does that even mean? Comfortable means different things for different people. No defrost feature, no temperature setting. Further, the lack of a boot opening control seems ludicrous especially when the key/fob provided doesn’t even have a button to do so. The only thing you could say is that the app matches the car software which too lacks many features of its biggest rival. You’ve got lots of work to do Volvo !!
Version 1.7 was working fine until I did update. Cannot change units to miles and over the air update doesn’t function
Every time I use the app I need to log in again, and that includes two stage authentication every time. This is made even more frustrating by the fact that the EX40 doesn’t have a ‘zapper’ key, so the app is the only way to remotely unlock it. Edit: 6 months later and still the same issues. Volvo not interested in updating their app / software
Trying to use this app in winter to defrost my car. Coming from a Tesla when I was able to specify the cabin temperature, the pre-conditioning feature of this app is pathetic. I get in the car and it is blowing cold air with ice still on the windscreen. I have to go outside before travelling and set the temperature myself. Surely the app should be capable of doing this.
This app is such a disappointment, the only thing it was good for was defrosting a frozen car but since the latest release that doesn’t work either. All I see now is error messages “could not turn on climate”, “could not unlock the car”, “could not load timer”. The car is connected to the internet because the app can tell me it’s charging and occasionally tells me the cabin temperature too but it just can’t do basic functions. These functions worked in the previous release of the app and only stopped working a week ago.
