Description

vSphere Mobile Client enables administrators to monitor and manage vSphere infrastructure directly from a mobile device (smartphone or tablet).
You can find more details about it at https://flings.vmware.com/vsphere-mobile-client.
Using the client, administrators can log in to a vCenter Server and manage and monitor virtual machines, hosts and clusters. Long running tasks can also be monitored, receiving push notification upon completion.
vSphere Mobile Client brings the following capabilities to vSphere administrators on the go:
Virtual machine list with overview on resource consumption and VM details. From the VM list the user can enter the VM console or see more detailed information on the VM such as events, performance charts and also execute quick actions.
ESXi host list with overview on resource consumption and some host details like host state and uptime. From there the user can see the host details page with events and performance charts included.
Cluster list with an overview of the cluster resource consumption and configuration overview (e.g. DRS, HA and number of migrations).
Task monitoring - subscribe to any running task and receive a notification on your mobile device upon task completion, even when your device is in-active or you have another application running on the foreground.
Performance charts allow to monitor the resource usage in real time or a day, week, month or year back. Counters include CPU, Memory, Storage and Network.
NOTE: The VMware vSphere Mobile Client application has been tested on vCenter server version 6.0 (and above). Access to vSphere infrastructure may require a secure access method such as VPN on a mobile device. Contact your IT department for further assistance if needed.
This is a tech preview release and as such it only has a limited subset of the intended functionality. As we release updates with new features regularly, we are looking for feedback on what features you would like to see in the application.

vSphere Mobile Client Reviews

Doesn’t work with iOS 16 at all

App loads shows icon briefly and then go to white screen.

Severely lacking

I’d give this app 3-4 stars if it were made by some unknown developer on a low budget but it’s insane that VMWare still hasn’t produced a better mobile client. The biggest feature I’ve been longing for in this client is a solid remote client but it took them forever to implement it and now that you can at least get into servers the controls are poorly though out at best and down right buggy at worst. Come on VMWare, it’s not like you don’t have a million other examples out there of how to implement a mobile client for touch based mobile platforms. This is the kind of product you get when your R&D process doesn’t involve testers who actually have to do work on the go.

Solid VSphere Mobile Client

RyanDS2021 on

This application has improved over the last year, I am able to monitor or control any ESXi Host or VM (power cycle/shutdown/reboot plus remote KVM into any VM). Very nice app, only downside is that if a ESXi host IP address changes the application keeps reverting back to the original first imputed IP address and only fix or solution is to fully delete the app and reinstall it, basically config it from the ground up again…

Very nice lightweight app

All the complaints in all the reviews I saw have been addressed. You can control VMs. You can access a console, including typing in it Very nice usage graphs. Perfect for checking on a process or vm. Not designed to be a full scale replacement for vcenter.

Nice idea - but misses the point!

jmasci on

Great idea! Connect to your VMs from a lightweight device like an iPad!!! But wait...you don’t actually get to log into your VM and control it like you do from a computer. There is no way to send the CTRL+ALT+DEL command to the VM so you can log in and control the machine. You can see stats. You can power on/off. Or reboot the Guest OS. But so what? You can do those things from Safari on the iPad. This app is essentially USELESS.

Not just for vSphere!

BitingChaos on

I don't use vSphere, and luckily this can connect to and manage the fully free and stand-alone ESXi server. The app can't do a lot to manage your VMs, but it does let you view them and their stats.

Working.

Remote console needs a keyboard.

JermCool on

I really like the overview and dashboard, but if you want to mess with a client directly, you have to pull up the on-screen keyboard to do the CAD key press or enter credentials without a bluetooth keyboard. It’s not ideal. Please include a way to launch the device keyboard with special keys.

Needs console capability

Richard in VB on

Works good, but really miss consoles. Lost ssh to a virtual and needed console to see why, but not with this app.

Moving In the right direction

capnhowyoudo on

The app is extremely clean with a lot of options. There is a lot of work that still needs to be done. My biggest gripe with the app is that I can not power off or power on VM’s. Every time I try I get a failure notification, but unable to view why it’s failing.
