WeCroak

Remember, you’re going to die

Published by: KKIT Creations

Description

As seen in 10% Happier, Atlantic Magazine and The New York Times.
Find happiness by contemplating your mortality with the WeCroak app. Each day, we’ll send you five invitations at randomized times to stop and think about death. It’s based on a Bhutanese folk saying that to be a happy person one must contemplate death five times daily.
The WeCroak invitations come at random times and at any moment just like death. When they come, you can open the app for a quote about death from a poet, philosopher, or notable thinker.
You are encouraged to take one moment for contemplation, conscious breathing or meditation when WeCroak notifications arrive. We find that a regular practice of contemplating mortality helps spur needed change, accept what we must, let go of things that don’t matter and honor things that do.
We’ve also added features to make WeCroak work with your modern life.
• WeCroak only sends notification between 7 AM and 10 PM
• Open the app once per week to keep receiving your five daily WeCroak invitations at randomized times
Join the WeCroak Leap Monthly Subscription to go even deeper with death based mindfulness
• Access WeCroak's Daily Review tool and track what matters most to you each day
• Enjoy more and harder-hitting WeCroak quotes that are only for subscribers
• Receive weekly death mindfulness challenges
• Make your own Memento Mori images with your photos

Good but not all the quotes are contemplations an out death

Perspective-giving

The powerful impact of these reminders is really wonderful and the advertising is true- brings happiness! Great quotes. This app is wonderful.

Cheated

I bought the app, and then with an update it moved to subscribe mode. Thanks for taking away what I paid for.

Needs more quotes

AngryMums on

My family members have said that they have received the same quotes up to five times. It seems like it would be easy enough to keep updating the quotes and regularly adding more to the database. Otherwise, it’s an interesting concept and has helped me to have a more grounded mindset.

Great concept but content is lacking

It’s a wonderful concept but 95% of the quotes are pretty bad. I switched over to the paid subscription to see if it was any better but immediately cancelled that after getting a quote from Paris Hilton. I think it’s useful for the unpaid subscription, just to get the 5 reminders that you’re going to die, but don’t bother opening the notifications. I send daily quotes to family members and friends so I have a huge library of words if wisdom and inspiration. WeCroak, I’m for hire if it’s just a matter of you all not having time to scour the internet for useful quotes! I appreciate the intention of creating an app like this, it just seems they had a great idea but ran out of steam to really follow through to make it good.

Be sure WHO you are quoting

“I am become death, the destroyer of worlds” J. Robert Oppenheimer Please please quit attributing this to Oppenheimer!! It’s from the Hindu sacred text in the Bhagavad Gita. Oppenheimer only QUOTED it. It makes your app look ignorant and it’s a lovely app. I’ve seen it twice now .

It can be thought provoking.

I really like this app. I want to love it, but some of the quotes are confusing and don’t make sense. I paid for extra content, and so far that has been good. Thank you for this app, may the quotes keep improving 🙌

Far too much repetition

A Boy from Balgonie on

There are literally thousands of quotations about death, if not tens of thousands. Please try google, then build up your database.

Simple and straightforward, just how I like it.

Wish the notifications contained the actual text instead of prompting to open the app.

Not always great quotations

My nick was taken, too on

I love this app for my remainders of mortality. Definitely valued in that regard. But more attention needs to be paid to some of the quotations. Not all are reminders of death or mortality. “Hidden messages shared in symbolic language”? What does that even mean? Death is good enough. The pseudo-mysticism takes me out of the experience. (Also the Bhagavad Gita is misquoted as Oppenheimer. I know he said it, but he was reading the Gita at the time.)
