Description

Welcome to WikiArt.org, the online home for visual arts from all around the world.

Aim of the project
Our primary goal is to make world’s art accessible to anyone and anywhere. WikiArt already features some 250.000 artworks by 3.000 artists, localized on 7 languages. These artworks are in museums, universities, town halls, and other civic buildings of more than 100 countries. Most of this art is not on public view. With your active involvement, we are planning to cover the entire art history of the Earth, from cave artworks to modern private collections. We also provide you with tools for translation on as many languages as needed.

Financial status
The project is non-profit. We use donation and advertising as financial sources to cover hosting and technical service expenses. The content of the site is launched for free by our Volunteer Team – and you are welcome to join it. Check out ‘Donate’ and ‘ how to contribute’ section to know more about it.

Copyright policy
WikiArt presents both public domain and copyright protected artworks. The latter are showcased in accordance with fair use principle:
as historically significant artworks
as used for informational and educational purposes
as readily available on the internet
as low resolution copies unsuitable for commercial use

We respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement and remove copyright protected artworks, or block them for users from countries where infringement is alerted. But mostly we try to get artist’s permission to demonstrate his art, and confirm it with a credit line.
We provide information to help copyright holders manage their intellectual property online. If you think somebody is violating your copyrights and want to notify us, please submit the notice by [email protected]

Waste of $5

Nombreeeeeeeeeee on

Purchased app excited to use my website login info to add favorites and be able search on phone. Login does not work, and support has been no help at all. Complete waste of $5.

Stable Diff but I still no landscape/rotation

Hecubus452 on

Why would implementing a stable diffusion engine into the app take priority over adding the basic ability to freakin' look at a picture on my phone sideways.

Such potential

I would be willing a small monthly fee for this app if the Apple TV app would allow me to the previous menu once I click on a painting. As it stands, I have to restart the app in order to get out of a painting once I click on it. It's terrific that you can zoom into pieces. I would love to have information about each piece with an additional long press of the remote button as well.

Not Donation Based

JRLBell on

I downloaded the app and opened and was immediately presented with a one week trial. I agreed and forgot about it. Then I was charged $5.26 ($4.99 for app and $0.27 in sales tax). The just of my complaint is that this is shown as a donation based app from $0.99 and upward. This is clearly not the case. I also received no receipt for my purchase. My point is that the developer shouldn’t indicate that it is donation based, when it is clearly a purchased app. Now I don’t know if I’m going to be charged $5.26 each month or if this is a one time purchase. Two points for being very shady. BTW, I have no idea how well the app works. It might be awesome. That doesn’t excuse the way it is handled financially. I’ll revise this if the developer ever responds to me on here or to my emails.

It’s Alright

Wish it would rotate/enlarge. Which I could follow artists. Black artists? Women artists? It’s alright.

More biographical information needs to be supplied. Otherwise this is a treasure house of great painters and their work.

Lazy implementation. Barbones

Hecubus452 on

I've been waiting years for the basic functionality of having the artwork rotate when my phone is in landscape. Supporting basic orientation has been expected fictionally since iOS 1. Why the dev would think it's ok to show beautiful artwork in one orientation only is crazy. Thoughtless. Still can't rotate. How hard is it? Something so basic? Really? Unacceptable

Fantastic back catalogue of Art!

Been looking for an app like this for years. Excited to have finally found a non-profit app with such an extensive, hi-res, detailed, collection from some of the most well-know artists in the world. Recommend.
