Disappointing
The fact that the actual server is touted as open source but it’s not possible to connect to a local hosted server via this app is a disappointment. It’s just a gimmick.

Would be great if you could connect to an selfhosted server using this app
I have a self hosted actual-server but there doesn’t seem to be a way to connect to it. Creating an account leads me to a thing where I have to subscribe for $7.99/mo and nowhere in the app description does it mention this. Huh?
I would like to connect to my local Actual server. How to do that?
I subscribed and sent a few support emails. I never heard back.
I’ve used YNAB4 and nYNAB for nearly a decade and was displeased with the companies’ direction after rolling out nYNAB. As someone who just needs to maintain my budget, Actual Budget is nearly perfect. It lets me budget as I need to without features getting in the way, and it works across my phone, laptop and desktop so I can budget anywhere. Folks new to budgeting entirely may want to look at other options that provide more support/guidance for new users. You will also want to plan on using a desktop or laptop to set up your budget; the app is more for adding transactions on the go than doing everything. If you’re looking for a mobile-first experience, there may be better choices out there.
The website seems to give instructions for the desktop app, but there doesn’t appear to be this very basic functionality on the app. I’m sure it’s great when it’s all set-up, but this feels very alpha.
When I try to type email or anything in the app I can't see anything, cursor is moving but none of the entries are visible.
I am a budgeting novice. Picked up Actual in August, started tracking my spending, and am now getting way more disciplined. App is easy to use, and fast. I pick it up after every time I spend money now, and know where every penny is going. Feels like I’m in control of my money for the first time. Great for budgeting beginners like me.
This app looks clean and based on your Twitter, it will continue to grow. Someone posted that there was no submit button for transactions, which is true, but swiping to the side seemed to work as a submit. Keeping it and waiting to see it get better. Love the purple top bar. Maybe implement a dark mode? Keep it up, once it’s full of feature I might consider the sync.
