took my money
was subscribed to the standard annual plan, should be $20 a year yet billed me $50. i haven't even used this in a year since i forgot about it. usually all subscriptions go to the itunes app so they're easy to manage, this one doesn't so i didnt notice i hadn't cancelled it. am really upset since i'm a student and i can't be loosing that amount of money. if it had just been the $20 that would be on me, but it's ridiculous to up the price like this when i hadn't agreed to that. ending my subscription now so this can't happen again.
Terrible UI
I am sad to agree with the other reviews saying that the UI is a mess. I have no idea whether I am selecting a video or a playlist, I can’t see a way to rewatch videos earlier in a playlist, you can’t mark things as watched, UI elements are too close together (particularly the full screen button and the progress bar) and all sorts of other annoyances. I got a free subscription to Nebula with Curiosity Stream, and I enjoy the Nebula app much more even though I think the content on CS is better. When it’s time for renewal I expect that the UI will drive me away from CS and to Nebula.
EDIT: I am getting the UI more, and I think I’m ok with it. However, the AppleTV UI is different! For example, it doesn’t mark anything as watched!
The promotion is a lie
In the YouTube promotions for this it says if you sign up through a creators link you can get CuriosityStream & Nebula together for $15 for a year. This is not true, I went through the link, the only way to get the above is to pay $9.99 a month.
Even if I did miss something here, the whole thing is designed to confuse you so you end up paying more. Not cool.
Needs more polish… a lot more
It’s great to see an independent platform for creators, I even invested a bit in the public company .
But a year or so later the app leaves much to be desired. Buffering, crashes, a still-not-so-great recommendations algorithm, choppy animations and an interface that just doesn’t feel “fluid”.
I’ll continue to subscribe to support the creators but unless substantial changes are made to rebuild the app and provide a more coherent user experience , I just can’t see many people sticking around.
Interesting content, but UI no good!
The user interface for Apple voice over users is too complex! The developers need to make it as simple as possible and easy to use. We don't want disappearing controls and all that rubbish! See Brighteon, Odysee, Rumble, Gab TV all easy to use! Apps like NaturalNews are a doddle and all we want is to see the video! Oh and we would like it to use the system settings for light and dark mode. You don't get any prizes for making a site that is hard to use. It's the content we pay for, not how fancy the website looks. It's a website, not a plate in a Michelin star restaurant!
Non-existent service
If I could give it a negative number of stars then I would. It’s only £2.49 they’re taking from my account every month, but that’s not the point. I can’t sign in to my account. I’ve never watched one video on curiositystream. I may have messed up somewhere signing up, I’ll admit that. But everything from that point on is their fault. They have my bank details and email address, yet every time I contact them, it’s, “can’t find that account”. Pathetic. And to add insult to it, the nebula offer they run on a lot of YouTube channels won’t activate either.
Just like the top comment, the app is buggy
I saved a video and it couldn’t play when I have no internet. What a disappointment this app is. Also there is no word descriptions (title etc) when you use the search function. I am a bit disappointed since the top comment mentioned this over a year ago and it’s still not fixed.
Saved Videos
Prior to signing up, it is not emphasised that, although you can save videos for later viewing, this only works if you are still connected still online. For example, you cannot save videos and watch on plane.
For me this significantly reduces the value of this app/service
Doesn’t stay open
I managed to login then the app minimized itself, every time I click on it in open apps it maximizes them minimizes immediately. Unusable
Good but connection issues
Quite enjoying CS with its plenty of documentaries and interesting series but finding that getting the app to connect to the chromecast a pain at best. Constantly crashes or is unable to connect when YouTube, Disney+ or Netflix all connect and stream without issues. Once it becomes as stable as these apps when streaming/casting it will be excellent. Also, please add more STEM related shows!
