Fateful Lore

A delightful little Dragon Quest 1 pastiche, it's got good music, funny writing, and enjoyable RPG gameplay. My one issue is that much like DQ1 the game is rather short, and once you've played through once there isn't much to discover on subsequent runs.

Reminds me of NES games I use to play. Simple and easy to play. Developer did a great job!

I find myself playing this game a lot more than I expected. That’s better than any review I could write. I only gave it 4/5 because of the lack of a map, and no quest log. I know that makes it more true to the retro feel, but some traditions just aren’t worth preserving.

This is a fun old-fashioned RPG that you should be able to knock out in 6-8 hours. It’s free, it’s fun, and it’s worth your time. The game is straightforward - you’re a hero who has to go get the mcguffins and then beat up the big bad threatening the kingdom. Get exp, level up, get slightly better gear over and over, and so on. It’s simple and it works. The writing in the game is light and funny, both while talking with NPCs (and wells!) in towns and while reading combat text in battles. My only real complaint is that enemies can feel like damage sponges, but that’s a nit pick when the game nails 8-bit RPG fun so well. I kept waiting for this game to rook me by luring me in with a fun free title and then sucker punching me with in-app purchases, but it never happens. It’s remarkable that the dev put up this game for free, and if you like old school RPGs like Dragons Quest, you’ll enjoy this game.

I have never written a review for a game before, but I thought this definitely deserved my thoughts. The writing is fantastic, I’m a sucker for funny dialogue and the story is simpler and makes sense unlike other RPGs I’ve played that have a big history/plot line with a complex array of characters and places, etc. The gameplay mechanics make sense and the battles gradually get harder the same time as you get stronger. Though, my one suggestion is for a health bar on enemies so I can see my process. The boss fights feel like forever, like an endurance race to see how long I can stretch my health. Had a hard time putting this one down! Anyone who likes 2D classic RPG games should give this one a go.

Great game so far, love the aesthetics and music, the NPCs say the funniest things and I can tell so much care went into this game. I have one bug though, I went to get the medal in the cave to the west, fought the opened the chest, got the medal and died to the boss, I exited the game and opened it up later, it asked me if I wanted to start from the last auto save so I clicked that and the chest was open, didn’t have to fight the boss and I didn’t have the medal, now the chest is open and I can’t proceed, can’t fight the boss.

Great game that looks and plays like a mini Dragon Warrior. The enemies are quirky and interesting, reminding me somewhat of the humor of Earthbound. I was able to complete the game in a few weeks. Satisfying game.

I love the game! Controller support would take it to the next level though.

I will say that it reminds Me a LOT of the old Legend of Zelda games because of the storyline and evrything, I just recently downloaded it and already love it

This game stands with a very select few mobile games that are absolutely deserving of praise. It is not a graphical masterpiece, the story is relatively basic… that’s kinda the point it’s a total throwback. This game achieves its goals perfectly. It is the perfect game for what it is. 5 stars easy. Best 5ish hours I’ve ever spent mobile gaming.
