---
We put everything we could into making the best digital Sudoku game ever released:
- We wrote a puzzle generator from scratch to create over 70,000 of the highest quality puzzles you’ll see anywhere. We spent weeks figuring out how to generate intricate and complex puzzles you won’t find in other Sudoku apps. Our hardest puzzles require wild techniques like “XYZ Wings”, “Hidden Quadrouples”, “Jellyfish”, and “Swordfish”.
- Most people don’t know this but Sudoku puzzles are actually generated by programatic Sudoku solvers. The fastest way to know how hard your puzzle is, or if it’s valid, is to write a solver that knows all the strategies that can try it. With Good Sudoku, we run our solver as you are playing, so if you get stuck, it can detect what you know by looking at your answers and your notes, and then help you find the next technique you need to solve the puzzle.
- Most Sudoku games classify difficulty into vague Easy, Medium, and Hard difficulties — But what do these difficulties mean? Typically they refer to the kinds of solving techniques that are required to solve a given puzzle without resorting to guess-and-check. In Good Sudoku we aren’t vague about it at all. We lay out exactly which techniques are required for each difficulty level. Good Sudoku allows you to practice them individually outside of puzzles, and keeps track of which ones you’ve learned!
- When we first got interested in Sudoku we noticed that a lot of players spend most of their time looking at the board and counting. On easy puzzles, this counting serves as a way to increase the difficulty by making the puzzle take longer. We know some sudoku players love the counting but we found it a bit tedious and designed some tools to alleviate the busywork. At first these tools might feel a bit like cheating, but once your mind is freed up from counting you’ll have space to see the much deeper more fascinating side of Sudoku: all of the beautiful technique structures. Freed from the burden of busywork Sudoku becomes one of the best search-style games we’ve ever played. More fun than word-searches and solitaire, high-level Sudoku is a real treat — and with Good Sudoku and a little practice, anyone can learn it!
- We noticed when looking at other Sudoku apps although there are often daily puzzle modes, those modes never include global leaderboards. Weird! Good Sudoku remedies this problem!
- We wanted to make the best Sudoku out there, and while we’re proud of our puzzles, we recognize that puzzles come from all places. That’s why we built a quick and easy custom puzzle mode into Good Sudoku, so if you have a paper puzzle that you’re stuck on, or you’re trying some wild variant (Like the Miracle Sudoku!) it’s easy to put it into the game, play it, and share it with your friends. If the puzzle follows standard Sudoku rules, our hint system will even help you get unstuck!
We truly hope Good Sudoku can introduce you to, or deepen your love for this great game.

Hints are terrible

Phoebs34 on

Overall the game is good, but whenever I’m stuck, the hints are AWFUL. They always show something I’ve already figured out and if you press hint again, it repeats the same hint instead of showing you something new. It would be great if the hints function could be improved.

Focus mode takes the sudoku out of sudoku

Removing the “busy work” out of sudoku just makes it brainless the auto notes add to this as well. Just turns it into clicking through numbers looking for single white squares BUT as a learning tool it’s a great thing. Actually being able to do the tech in a game is awesome but as an actual main sudoku app it’s just not it I’m sticking to the trashy no tools ad riddled app lol

Difficulty given up front? And don’t tell me I didn’t reach top 250!

Any chance we could be told the numerical difficulty as one is doing a puzzle, it would spur me on! It’s only quite interesting to find out after. Love tackling these each day, but PLEASE don’t tell me that I didn’t reach the top 250 - just tell me if I did! A waste of info and space, and dispiriting (as another reviewer said).

Good game. Annoying ads

iam10ninjas on

I’ll happily put up with ads for free games, especially one as good as this. But starting a game, making a single move and they getting an ad (which makes you exit THREE EFFING TIMES) is far too annoying to put up with. Then four moves later, same thing. It’s a real shame as this might be the best sudoku game I’ve ever played. It’s making me not want to pay the fiver for the full game.

Perfection!

I was struggling to find a decent sudoku app, many are just too easy, and smack of being hurriedly slung together as a money grab, not this one👍🏻. Love the auto note feature, it does help me to focus on technique. My game has improved greatly. Well designed app and I shall be buying more from this developer.

Too many adverts

This would be great if there were less adverts. I think sitting through 2 lots for every board will put people off!

Stupid sign up screen.

Raresole on

The developer has added a sign up screen that can not be dismissed without signing up. Trying to follow in the footsteps of Epic Games. Deleting all his games. What man idiot.

Would be 5 star if it didn’t crash constantly

I can’t open the notifications, turn on the flashlight, switch to safari, finish a puzzle, or even opening it without it crashing.

It’s good, but hint system needs improvement

tobypearce on

The interface is clear (if garish). Dev says app inspired by cracking the cryptic YouTube channel. However, the hint system requires you to use a notation system that the channel (and according to the channel, most good solvers) don’t use: crossing out candidates, or even filling in all possible candidates first then crossing out as puzzle progresses. This is cumbersome and laborious and if you use a decent notation system you’ll find yourself needing to use several hints just for the system to catch up to where you already are (e.g. crossing out a candidate in one box when you’ve already narrowed it down to one of two different boxes). This limits the value of the hints system, which is the use of this app. In terms of ui, the free sudoku exchange website is clearly better.

Pretty good

The almost endless supply of games is great and it’s good that learners are able to get hints and tips as they progress. The interface function that lets you pick a number and see possible positions is very helpful. However… I find a lot of the interface confusing – little beyond tapping a number and seeing where it can go is intuitive. I was hoping to learn clever ways of solving the puzzles but beyond the simple rules, but the tutorials are not that helpful. The “Y Wing” rule is explained in a few scant words and anything more advanced is just unfathomable. Also, Expert, Pro and Advanced…they all sound like synonyms. Could the creators have not thought of a better naming scheme? There’s no “Medium” level even!
