Hooked: Remote Anchor Alarm

The app is simple and accurate. I had dragged twice in one hour on a new-to-me boat and ground tackle. Actually the 6th time with this boat. It was time for peace of mind so when I had finally set the anchor, I downloaded the app. Totally happy with the performance. Now it's time for a new anchor.

Non cellular iPad connect to DataHub and pulls in data from the NMEA 2000 system. Streams boat information to my phone when I’m not on the boat. So far, the best anchoring app I’ve found for the type of information I wanted when away from the boat.

Winds, current and tide twisted us around our chain. I was able to “ move “ the anchor so our swing was just inside the alarm radius. Got a peaceful night after the first learning session. Don’t leave it on if you dinghy into a bar. You WILL get an alert.

WOW, I’ve just started using thing this app and so far I’m blown away, no pun intended 😎 We’re anchored near shore just outside Bodrum Türkiye. We’re ashore having a look around. I left my iPad running with the app going and I’m monitoring live on my iPhone. If this thing works as advertised and as it seems to be now, I love it. As far as I can tell it’s the only anchor alarm app that allows remote monitoring and will send you an alert if you start to drag or move outside the preset safe zone for any reason. Now if they can just figure how to get NMEA live wind data into the app. 👍👍👍👍

This is one of my 2 that I use consistently. It is my general go. I like the anchor history and that you can customize the colors of the lines. Helpful to see how you’ve moved. I would like to make the lines thinner and more precise or higher refresh of drawing the lines. A feature I have found useful when selecting an anchorage is the ability to see where others have anchored. Very helpful when in unfamiliar shores and finding a place to anchor and seeing how many others have previously. I know it may be a proprietary thing to integrate with Garmin GPSMAP plotters, but would be appreciated, as well. We anchor out almost exclusively, and this app always gets used.

I’ve tried other anchor alarm apps that don’t provide the accuracy nor the visibility Hooked provides. I love being able to see near real time visibility of our position (within GPS accuracy of ± 15 feet)! Additionally, we are able to remotely monitor our boat without worry and without significant battery drain. Before using Hooked we never felt comfortable leaving the boat even for short trips. We also felt that we needed to sleep in shifts when winds picked up - which has been often this season! Hooked has given us a peace of mind we needed. It has been invaluable in alleviating stress while at anchor. We absolutely love Hooked!

I gave a poor earlier review on Hooked Premium because of a bug that caused it to read an incorrect longitude value from our PredictWind Data Hub, and this caused the app to crash. I finally figured out how to contact the developer and filed a bug report, and they had a fixed version ready within 12 hours. It now seems to work perfectly and I’m now happy with the product!

Finding an anchor app that allowed remote viewing without draining my phone's battery was impossible before this app. The ability to view it remotely exactly like it is shown locally is key, and the device that's monitoring doesn't have to constantly run the app and drain my battery. Also, I really love the color gradient on the tracks which shows you the history of where you're track has been.

I tried so many anchor apps and none of them had the combo I was looking for: a clean user interface and the ability to see the same thing locally and remotely (especially without draining my phone battery while onshore). I think that even the free version is more useful than many of the paid anchoring apps. Overall, super impressed! 👏

Update: Originally 4 stars with some issues on the layout of anchor button. Developer listened to feedback and made some great changes. Good job and thank you! Such a great anchoring app! Literally the best one out there…especially for remote monitoring. 👏
