Excellent calendar and tasks app does everything to keep my life organised

My first review of Informant for iOS was written in 2011 (back when it was called Pocket Informant Pro). One thing that's always been clear is that the people behind the app are passionate about making it the best app possible. They are highly responsive (there's a feedback feature inside the app) and welcome discussion of new or changed features. The app is constantly being enhanced, and bugs are fixed quickly. Informant 5 is no small update, but I had no problem getting used to the changes. The new menu button is very clever, and I like the way it occupies minimal screen space unless you're actually using it (unless the previous tabs). That allows the menu-items to be larger for easy access. My favourite feature has always been templates. I had lots of templates for events and tasks, and this saved me a lot of time. My initial alarm at the loss of templates hasn't totally gone away. Their replacement - triggers - seems far more useful, but at the moment there's a bug that means you can't save some fields in the trigger. I'm sure this will be resolved soon (it has been Christmas after all). For those who haven't used an earlier version, why is Informant so good? It's well designed, with everything being presented clearly. The multiple views of the calendar are all useful. My favourite is the week view, but I actually do use all the views from the "agenda" or list-format, through to the year view. The most useful thing though is that Informant can be used as a simple meeting/task/diary/notes app, but as your needs grow you can make use of the power of Informant - using projects, for example. Tasks and sub-tasks. It's easy to outgrow the many productivity apps that look beautiful and are simple. I know - I've tried many! Informant is a very mature app and it shows. It's has an abundance of reliable features, and - for those who want to - extensive customisation is available. Highly recommended.

I would not mind paying a one time fee. But I am not going to pay an annual fee for a calendar.

Update 7/19/24 Another year of poor at best updates. Watch app remains horrible compared to other PIM watch app. Can only see 7 days of your calendar, unable to complete tasks on watch. Any change on the iOS app requires a new watch synch. Nothing substantial in iOS app. Wait sorry I forgot apparently it’s important to fade upcoming task, that has been implemented. Informant has gotten away from previous wishlist that subscribers use to have access to give ideas for improvements. Update 7/16/23 First let me say that this review has absolutely nothing to do with money or cost of subscription. Informant answers all reviews citing cost issues, that is not the case here. We still do not have a functioning watch app which has become more important to me than a lot of the other updates they have provided. Support tells me recently that engineers are still working on it even though ads state a working watch app. Support also informed me that they may have to scrap watch app as other have done. I have been told by support for years that it’s in the works , it works , it doesn’t work and so on. In that end I am tired of using an app that does not give me the ability to use my products as they were designed. Informant is a great program that has not kept up with the advances in technology. Pocket informant can’t get an Apple Watch App to work in over 4 years, but we now have the ability to search 30 years of data instead of 15. Who had the idea that would be the best use of programmers time? How many people really need to search 30 years. Consider that the iPhone is only okay 15 years old why is that an important update? People including myself have been asking for a decent watch app only to have it pushed to the side. Was told in July2018 it’s being updated. Has not been touched in over 4 years. I am a user from long before 5.0. Subscriber without complaint but leaving when subscription is complete. Fantastical May cost a little more, however all their synch and watch work without any issues. Went to do latest update, excited to see a default view setting. Was unable to find how to set it. Contacted support and this is the reply: Thank you for contacting support. Please accept our apologies. Our engineers erroneously included that detail but that default feature wasn't planned to be part of that release. They have pushed another update to Apple now to version 5.59 that will include that option and we should be able to see the roll-out start very soon. I would sugg

Even with time left on subscription, have moved on. Poor customer service No improvements Buggy Issued not addressed Ever since Alex sold it has been down hill.

This started out, over a decade ago, as the BEST calendar app. Then it was sold and it seems like development has slowed considerably and bugs have increased. Now, when it opens, it doesnt ‘highlight view’ me more than the day it opens on, so I can’t look at my schedule for other days. It started to do this a while ago, and I would just close and reopen the app. That usually fixed it. But, now, it does it all the time and also, completely blacks out future days past like a month, so no future-planning, either. Gah! It still is the most full-featured and good-looking calendar and tasks app I can find, I JUST WISH IT WORKED!! If it works for you, awesome! You’ll have a fantastic app for all your scheduling needs!

I’ve been using this app for 10+ years but recently it doesn’t synchronize well with my calendars or save changes for display. Reached out to customer chat and after 3 weeks they never responded and just closed out the issue when I kept inquiring on a solution. Gonna go find another app to use now and will not be resubscribing in the future due to the poor customer service.
