I’ve used iWriteMusic app for about 7 years. I own a very expensive comprehensive program, Sibelius but rarely use it now because iWriteMusic is so easy, intuitive if you use it for an hour or two at the beginning it gets really so straightforward. One weakness is it doesn’t import files. The export function is great and I’ve used it for not only myself but also my semi-professional choir colleagues to learn difficult passages we stumble over. I also use it to compose in 4 parts, for my granddaughters nursery rhymes and have even used it to compose orchestral suites. I instrumental sounds section could do with upgrading but for an app this price, it’s amazing.
- lack of MusicXML makes collaboration impossible with colleagues using other apps - repeated and frequent crashing means wasted time and extreme frustration - emails repeatedly bounce saying mailbox full/permanently unavailable - FB message unanswered Has this app become obsolete? I notice reviews are all years old - looking for another app that works and answers customer queries!
It takes a little time to get used to typing the music but once you know what you are doing it great and fun to use.
This is just the perfect app for writing and arranging music on the go! Just brilliant!
Sometimes, away from the P.C., and inspiration hits. This notation program is easy to use, and does the job the big boys do, just less shortcuts. Can print scores or parts from it, and makes a good little backup when parts need to be produced. Well worth it’s small cost
I have waited years to review this app. It’s only the second app I have ever reviewed and it deserves my full praise. I have written hundreds of covers band horn section arrangements (4 instruments) using the app. It could do more instruments but the limitation is the size of my iPad screen. The app description covers what the app can do so I’m not listing that here. There’s a few tiny notations missing that I’d like to use, but otherwise it allows me to complete my arranging task with ease. I can arrange in concert pitch then transpose to the different instruments. I particularly like the power of the app to take the key up and down as desired when the singer can’t quite cope. Even shifting keys when we change from male to female voice singers. I can write directly for trumpet in to Bb. Lots of flexibility. For the very low price this app is fantastic and I couldn't want a better app for the group task arranging I do. I hope the writers support the app forever! PS Top Tip, save your work very frequently, there is some auto save feature but I’m not sure of the time interval but occasionally the app crashes, particularly when copying and pasting in unusual ways but it’s really quick to get back to where you were if you’ve just saved it and therefore no big deal.
The app is brilliant however it doesn’t load once on To the screen with the logo. Disappointing cause it is a brilliant app and now it freezes at almost every action you do.
Just bought a new iPad to use with this app, which just keeps crashing. It's driving me crazy and no way to get my money back
I've tried a few notation programmes for percussion and not found anything that is remotely easy to use but this application is just fantastic. It's quick and easy to use and takes very little time to learn (just watched the tutorial on YouTube). It's very well thought out; you don't need a Grade 8 music qualification to use it.
