Every search gives me a 403 forbidden error
The latest update supposed to fix broken redirection in iOS 17.5 makes it more broken. Now every search query results in the last successful query being executed all and all over again.
Started using this app around a week ago and its been working great for me so far despite the negative reviews. My understanding is there was a bad update causing those reviews which was them fixed. It’s been really refreshing to use this new search engine, it seems really good and I’m looking forward to seeing how it improves my life as I use it more.
Recent updates have dramatically increased the reliability of having searches go via Kagi. Recommended.
This is the second time over a short period that this extension has been updated resulting in broken functionality and quite frankly it is embarrassing. Since the latest update it is impossible to use alternative search engines, for example if I navigate to google.com or use the !g bang the extension insists on intercepting the search and redirecting to Kagi. I want to like Kagi, I really do, but the quality of their software engineering is poor at best.
I understand the difficulties Kagi are facing trying to work within the stupid boundaries apple are forcing upon them but I’m glad this extension at least exists. It was incredibly frustrating when the new version of the app broke this completely but it’s now seemingly working again, so 👌 Hopefully one day we get a native integration without the need for this workaround
Redirection only works intermittently, but it’s worth noting that this instability comes from the platform itself where custom search engines aren’t possible. It’s not Kagi’s fault that large tech companies insist on double-dipping and that our elected officials do nothing about it.
Even after the update, the extension is totally nonfunctional.
UPDATE: now the developer fixed the extension by reverting it to the pre-2.0 codebase. Incredibly shoddy workmanship throughout, I am shocked by the lack of professionalism and skill. Most hijacking attempts fail and the original search engine is loaded anyway. This despite following the instructions to the letter. This new version of the plugin was poorly tested and released during the holiday period, when the ability to follow up on bug report and apply tweaks and fixes is limited. Very unprofessional
Intercepting doesn’t work anymore.
