Reading.com: Phonics for Kids

My five year old daughter and I started this journey in Jan. 2024. I am a working mom and I would like to make sure that I have enough time to guide my daughter in her studies. It only takes us 3-5 minutes a day to finish each level. After 6-7 months, she is already a fast reader! She also comprehends well. Thank you to the whole team of reading.com!

It works! After two months, my child became the best reader in a class of 4-6 year olds. I couldn’t believe that she could blend sounds so well and know how to read and spell some hard words. When we started, we were just giving it a try. But the first few lessons were so seamless that it felt like play for my child. I love that the alphabet song is done everyday. I love the structure of reviewing what was learned before, introducing a new sound, writing words, and reading a book. My child loves how characters from previous books are still in the new ones. I also love the symbols for long/short/quiet sounds and special words. I think what would be more helpful is more reading comprehension questions and a couple of spelling questions. If Reading.com would expand their services to cater to older kids and have a leveled structure (like lingokids), i would definitely sign up my kid again.

I guess this app is only for beginning reader. User can only skip to lesson 10 that’s it.

The app is great in teaching kids how to read. There is just one problem that is persistent with my experience and it is the Sound Story download time. It takes 15 minutes and more to load it for an 18-second vid! I hope this bug can be fixed. I checked my internet connection and it is not the problem as I can stream videos without problem. The load time impedes our learning and makes my kid very bored as we can’t also proceed to other activities without completing the story time.

My children learns to read but the books always takes time to download.

This app is absolutely amazing! My 1st grader has made so much progress in just a few weeks. He has been struggling in school to the point where they were questioning if he has ADHD. Come to find out he only becomes off task when they are on the subject of phonics. He’s the top student in Math and the teacher has his full attention. But reading he is up wondering. I started this app with him at home along with a few cvc word games I found. He’s literally reading the stories from this app! I really like that it’s a lesson a day because it keeps him focused and he doesn’t dread doing it because it doesn’t take forever. Every night we do a lesson and then reread the book from the previous day. If he feels up to it we play the games as well. Definitely download this app and give it a try, you will be so pleased and see results in just one week.
