LingQ has changed language learning for me. It gives me access to graded content in multiple languages. I can get hours of input a day by listening in lunch breaks or on the bus. Excellent.

Nice concept, you can choose the texts to work on and learn the vocab in the context. using AI, Lingq grabs the text and provides context sensitive translations. This can be misleading though. for example, in malay, the tense of a verb is given by other words elsewhere, and one should not translate a verb to its past tense just because it appears in a past tense context. at least not for the vocab card, since i need to remember the verb in the present tense. also, i found that the app does not work as advertised: new words were not marked as blue in the ipad app consistently.

Long time user, extremely disappointed by frustrating AI implementation. AI translations are universally worse, but displace better human-provided translations, making it much more time consuming to find the right translation. Either disable this “feature” immediately, or give us a setting to disable it ourselves.

Had a bug with premium subscription where my subscription wasnt applied after purchase. I eventually fixed it by trying to repurchase, which then updated my account, just before final payment screen.

I use Lingq Every day, It really streamlines the way you learn, I mostly use it for listening and reading. You’re spending less time setting up an exercise and more time actually exercising. I believe it does have writing and speaking features but I have not explored them at all, as I’m using other ways to practice those areas in my language learning. It does struggle with how it deciphers a word in my target language (Japanese) just because of the way Japanese works so for example if two characters together make up a slightly different word you personally need to decide if you are going to count that as a separate word, in addition because of my TL having 3 writing systems this can cause doubling up of known words if you’re not keeping track, as well as taking into account the fact that the same word may specifically use hiragana to make certain grammar points. It’s a little tricky to explain properly so I hope that made sense, but again this is specific to my TL so not an issue with the app itself. Though would be appreciated if it was addressed somehow. Importing text from websites and scripts from YouTube is very straight forward but as far as I can tell, It’s not so simple for Netflix or Viki for example, I believe there are workarounds if you use the browser instead of app and have plugins, but I want to spend as little time as possible setting things up and as much time actually studying.

Lingq is the best language learning app. It can take you from zero to hero and it can do it much more quickly than every other app. It’s genuinely sad to see that it is often overshadowed by the utter rubbish that is duolingo (“editors choice” what a joke.) Read books people it’s literally that simple. Give lingq a shot you won’t regret it. It has it’s issues but it works.

The app seems to running better on my older iPad since the last update, which is very welcome. Still the best app to learn a language - nothing else really comes close. Thanks to the team and keep up the good work.

The best way to learn a language: Zso much great content: audio, video, and reading material!

I use LingQ all the time for learning languages. It is very useful for listening and reading in multiple languages. You can also import your own content which is an invaluable tool.

This app is a fantastic way of learning. Previously I would print out articles and highlight words I didn’t know, look them up and then try and keep a list of them to review later. This does all of that for you. It means I can study things that interest me and use authentic articles and podcasts and review them word by word.
