Manta: Comics & Novels

Bait and switching on people who have been subscribed for years and putting content under a microtransaction paywall, when you were marketing yourself as the Netflix of webtoons is a real scummy move that shouldn’t be rewarded. I used to love Manta because it was different. Now it’s the same, if not worse, than every other pay-per-episode platform out there. No point paying for a subscription that revoked access to the content I had unlimited access to just a few months ago. Series I was in the middle of reading, that are still ongoing are suddenly behind a paywall? No thank you. Screw that.

Had the app for a few years on a subscription basis and loved it as it had such a wide range of comics whilst being cheaper than any other apps that made you pay for points to read chapters. However, with the introduction of pay per gems it means that this app is just as expensive as the others. I understand that it means that they can introduce new comics that they couldn’t have before with just the subscription, but some of the titles that were originally on the subscription are now pay for with gems. Still a good app especially with Under the Oak Tree being on there, but still quite disappointing as not the cheaper app that it once was.

Generally love Manta, great selection of comics and solid subscription (though the Gem changes were somewhat disappointing) One HUGE issue I have though is the Next Chapter button - it has a preview of a page from the next chapter, and MANY, MANY times this has completely spoiled the events of the next chapter which is incredibly disappointing (e.g. it's displayed several kiss scenes, character death etc.). PLEASE add an option to disable the preview, it's incredibly annoying. Thank you.

Had this app for a few years and used to love it. Could read anything, had monthly subscription for few years too. Now its a second webtoon. What’s the point of paying my monthly subscription if i have to buy the gems on top of it to read… I liked it because it was the opposite of webtoon. Now I’m thinking of just cancelling my subscription and deleting the app

Used to be a amazing app till I went on it one day to find out that you can only read the first three or something episodes when you used to be able to read a new one every time a new one released give us back the old one more people would use the app since overtime you would be able to read whilst with a pass people will binge read and be finished

This app was so good, you could explore different stuff for free, yes you had to wait for new episodes to become free each day but you ended out trying more stuff and actually coming back. Now you cant, loaded up after a little while away to find it is now subscription & ridiculous gem only. Such a shame and now i’ll never know how some really good comics end as its a costly subscription for someone who dabbles at best with no incentive to return now.

Ever since gems were introduced I feel the platform has gotten much worse. You still have to pay for gems on top of paying monthly. Platforms like these are why piracy exists. Think I’ll be going to those sites, this company doesn’t deserve my money.

I have had this app for 4+ years and it used to be amazing but not it’s garbage. Never mind the fact you now have to subscribe to read or continue reading all my beloved stories but when I tried to subscribe (tried six times) it kept making the screen go black and then sent it back to what I was on so it doesn’t even work. I’m extremely disappointed. The best phrase I can think of is if it’s not broke don’t fix it and that’s exactly what they have done. I’ve now deleted the app. I hope they get their nonsense together and put it back to the way it was because the old system worked perfectly.

I just wanted to say I’ve had this app for some few years and it’s been the best other than some comics not updating year on end and then disappearing.. also being one of the people who reads free pass I’m am very disappointed to have woken up to all the comics having changed to exclusive read only 😭 sorry to say I have deleted the app ; thanks for the few years of enjoyment 🙂

It used to be great when you could use free passes, but now it’s all subscription only- like it’s literally impossible to finish anything you start if you don’t pay for the subscription.
