Minimoog Model D Synthesizer

Classic Analog Synthesizer

Veröffentlicht von: Moog Music

Beschreibung

The Minimoog Model D App is a software transmutation of the world’s first portable synthesizer, the Minimoog Model D®. Anyone can jump in and play with over 160 included presets or lay fingers to the controls and begin exploring vast magical realms of creative potential for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Mac.
The Minimoog Model D App incorporates a number of inspiring sound creation tools and capabilities not present on its analog antecedent. New functions include the ability to play chords with up to four-note polyphony, an easy-to-use arpeggiator for rhythmic pattern creation, a real time looping recorder with unlimited overdubbing capacity, a tempo-synchronizable stereo ping pong delay module, and the Bender -- a wide-range stereo time modulation effect module.
The Minimoog Model D App also supports AUv3 Audio Unit extensions, which allows multiple instances of this powerful instrument to be used simultaneously within compatible iOS apps supporting AUv3.
A BRIEF HISTORY
Introduced by Moog in 1970, the Minimoog Model D served as the archetype for all electronic keyboards that followed. It gave users the ability to design their own sounds, translating imagination into reality. The Minimoog’s portability, affordability and accessibility made it the go-to instrument for musicians looking to expand beyond the traditional sounds of the time. Bernie Worrell used the Minimoog Model D to establish Parliament Funkadelic’s futuristic funk sound. Kraftwerk employed the Minimoog Model D on the successful concept album Autobahn, sparking an entirely new genre. Gary Numan replaced his live band’s guitars with Minimoog Model Ds, creating the prototype for industrial music. The classic sound of the Minimoog Model D can be heard on Bob Marley’s Catch A Fire, Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Dr. Dre’s The Chronic; Detailed in the mini-doc series “A Brief History Of The Minimoog”.

Incompatible with Logic

cpu use massive. Causes Logic to crash. Unable to access audio window for it when running with Logic resulting in synchronisation errors making it impossible to record.

Still not there yet

It struggles with tightly modulated sounds (short filter decays) with mid or high resonance. For example I compared the sound from the SecretRadio YouTube channel which has a video of a real minimoog recreating the Kraftwerk Robots bass. And this emulation feels smudgy & dull in comparison. Not as punchy and clear. With desktop emulations I get pretty much identical results. The desktop emulations have a zero delay feedback filter, not sure if this emulation does.

Ok but not really like a hardware synth

Willgupshup on

I guess at £30 this is still ok value. It’s really nowhere near as warm sounding as most hardware synths. It has a kind of harshness and the filters just don’t seem to work in the same way as the original.

Great sound UI issue

Stanleytrader27 on

Great sounding app. Does it sound exactly like the original? Don’t have one here to compare. I borrowed an original 70s minimoog back in the 90s for sampling and got on well with it, great for bass and FX etc. Still use some of those samples to this day. The app. Sounds very nice indeed and can go places some more sophisticated synths can’t. Moog really have paid attention to the sound. However the UI seems to have a bug that’s somehow linked to processor power/memory leakage or something. You open the app up and all is well, the UI responds correctly. You start programming and playing and after a while all the knob responses slow right down and you really have to move your finger on the screen a lot to get them to do anything. Shutdown the app and restart and all is fine again. Really annoying. iPad Pro M1 on iOS 17.1.2. I’m about to update to 17.2 to see if that has any effect.

Amazing

I don’t know how a company that basically always focused on hardware managed to do this, but it sounds incredible, way better than more expensive VSTs

Doesn’t support high-res iPad Pro resolutions

Shaps80 on

Vereinigtes Königreich

In iOS 16 there’s a new feature on the M1 iPad Pro models designed to work well with stage manager. This enables a higher resolution setting. However it seems this app has a fixed resolution perhaps because it sits top left in a small area, making unplayable on-screen at least and makes all the controls quite small and less accessible. I really hope this is fixed cause it would make this so much better 👍🏻 Workaround for playability – besides using a midi keyboard I also deeply appreciate the iPad keyboard support built-in enabling simple playback and access to various controls! Love this.

Latest update has a bug

Lee Simeone on

You can’t play polyphonic without the presets changing by themselves when playing chords. Maybe it’s Bob telling us something? Get a Polymoog?

Not displaying correctly on iPad pro 6th gen

El owno on

Vereinigtes Königreich

I love this app, but have just upgraded to an iPad pro 6th gen iOS 16, and it no longer displays correctly. The keyboard is all squashed up and no labels can be seen on the controls. Thank you for fixing this. Back up to 5 stars now!

Superb

Although I am interested in soundscapes acquiring a real Moog synth was only secondary to my musical interests and their high price range is well above my disposable income. However spending a few quid on the app version is a total feast, add a MIDI controller and you are set for a long and spectacular journey of sonic discovery now available to anyone for less than the price of a dinner for two. Is some philanthropist subsidising this? So generous of you to make this complex and sophisticated instrument available to the multitude. Thank you!

Awful update

capothief on

Vereinigtes Königreich

The model d app is my go to synth app but you’ve ruined it with the latest update. Please bring back the preset selection to the top bar and bring back the fx button too. It was so much easier to select presets the previous way instead of the updated way where you have a menu which covers the parameter knobs. I use my iPad live as a midi sound module and the new update is not very user friendly.
