Struggling with usability
I love Omnifocus and have been using for years. But I’m honestly struggling with adding items and sub tasks and general organising. I used to be able to easily drag items but everything is in hard mode now.

Whilst this still remains a powerful app it has not moved with the times. The syncing is way too slow for a modern app - sometimes taking over a minute between devices. The interface is often clunky and inconsistent in behaviour (like when and where you can drag a task or the “plus” icon). It feels like old code in a new wrapper. A proper redesign using modern frameworks would be great. Until then I’ll have to use alternatives.
Not very modern. Looks like an sql db query wrapped in an early 2000s UI. Can somebody tell me what the Omni group has done with OmniFocus since version one there has been minimal change masquerading as for paid upgrades. I don’t think this is worth the money. the iPad app is so littered with bugs. It’s like a paid alpha.
How do I cancel my free trial subscription
Incredibly difficult to use. Also can’t do simple things you think it would like create a new perspective with a unique set of projects.
Now retired, I have experienced a lifetime of concepts and processes on doing something (which I did). I used Omnifocus 1 and 2 for a few years but in the nature of my work they were more overhead than impact so I switched to another thing for near a decade. Now I have far more and varied projects and routine things to do so I tried v4. It is sweet. The power was always there and the useability is greatly improved on what I recall. I also like the E2E encryption that many other products do not offer. My view is that if you are employed or in business, get Pro. If you are not then think seriously about affording Pro, not because standard is not good but because perspectives in Pro lend still more strength. Plan your own self-organisation and be willing to strip back or change to suit yourself. OF4 will support it.
I was hesitant in the Beta of this coming from version 3.0, but this is a polished app that improves workflows and is built for power users / professionals. This is the gold standard in task management for serious projects and work.
This is a fantastic update. I rely on Omnifocus more than any other app, and so any significant improvement is greatly welcome. I love the unified experience across all my devices, and the small but powerful changes over Omnifocus 3 means Omnifocus 4 is quicker to use, streamlines my whole workflow, and causes less resistance in getting things done. The overall experience is aesthetically enjoyable and powerful. As someone with a lot of different responsibilities, and with the need to perform at a high level every day, Omnifocus 4 empowers me to do just that. With sincere gratitude to the Omni team, and all the beta users than helped make this life upgrade possible. NOTE: I use David Allen’s GTD methodology, and cannot recommend an app more highly to use with this system. If you have a lot on the go at any one time, this app is worth the investment. In my humble opinion, you do get what you pay for with Omnifocus, and others will get the best version of you too — a less stressed, more productive you!
It appears not much has changed with the 2024 release of OmniFocus 4 since the 2018 release of OmniFocus 3. Definitely no exciting new features or improvements in the UI that will push me to pay for the upgrade from OmniFocus 3. I’ll be sticking with the old version for now, until I can find the time to migrate my GTD system over to Reminders (which while not as advanced as OmniFocus, ot has improved significantly recently that as a free Apple app would be worth migrating to. But if you do decide to upgrade to OmniFocus 4. Make sure you don’t subscribe, with the current 5 year timeframe between versions, you’ll end up paying $600 in subscription fees, so better to buy the full version!
I've tried virtually every task manager for mac over the years but this is the one I keep coming back to and stayed with. it is unbelievably good and flexible particularly, with the ability to set up customised perspectives and the control over what you want to see and prioritise. I couldn't run my practice without it and V 4 is even better. it is easily my favourite and the most important piece of software that I use in life and work and nothing on the market could replace it. I think any task manager works when you have a relatively small number of tasks but Omnifocus really shines where you have hundreds to thousands of competing tasks along with GTD
