Worked fine until recently…

Played videos such as mp4 files fine until recently, then stopped working across multiple iOS devices. Try to play at original setting, crashes every single time. Logged onto NAS and now Qvideo is requiring a 3rd party app to transcode videos, which of course needs purchasing a license? Ridiculous.

Much worse than Synology DS Video

I thought my DS Video was bad, but..... Qnap Qmedia/Video doesn’t support so many video and audio formats so it’s useless. Unless you find a third party player. Playing via HDMI and their remote control is another huge headache....I think I rushed a lot by switching from Synology to Qnap....

I have had to call QNAP support numerous times trying to simply update a new NAS and that took two phone calls. Support prefers to log in and do things themselves and sometimes it conflicts with another support tech previous mess. After QNAP tried to remote access my NAS by opening up proper ports all failed. I called my ISP and they opened up ports, ports were also open up Google Mesh (router) and QNAP still couldn’t connect to NAS. Browser, Apps none of it works. I’ll return it to store and look for another NAS brand. Update: After hours researching and looking over every aspect in settings I figured it out. Ports defaulted incorrectly. 8080/8081 and 8081 was the culprit! 8081 was changed to correct, 8080. Another problem when using all QNAP app it takes multiple different login’s to begin using each app/NAS applications. That’s totally nail biting frustrating, because it seems theirs a trigger that presents login opportunity from the cloud-side itself within each app. Y’all developers really need to WAKE UP simplify this process cutting down steps. The worse thing about QNAP is their keyboard function with 2FA = crazy, thoughtless mind binding.... Google AUTH only provides seconds before changing code; however, within each QNAP app you must tap 1,2,3 numbers key on keyboard next to ‘space bar’ then tap number..... understand! Your doing this for every field! You gotta have a good memory and be super fast with keyboard. Not even Binance or any other 2FA I’ve experienced is this cumbersome as QNAP. It’ll make you hate life. Qnote3 app never updates. Uninstalled/reinstalled still it doesn’t update making it useless. Good luck with updates. My experience, QNAP IOS apps are thee worse when it comes to using their NAS. Nothing about any of them are intuitive. If QNAP in some way could make their NAS Server default to outside 3rd party app/software easily with simplified login with better 2FA process I could fall in love using it.

Had to fall back to Qfile to use 3rd Party Players

While it may of added some Native Player vs iOS player choice, horrible staggering and attempt to use InFuse 4 Pro (which PAID for AC3 and DTS codec support) won’t even play at all? I may of jumped every on review not trying last on left (VLC) but STILL no transcoding support for AC3 or DTS and don’t even get VIDEO w/o sound, just “doesn’t support”. Then switching to trusty INFUSE player yields complete refusal siting support. I’m open to InFUSE not having proper coding having moved onto InFUSE 5, but I PAID $9.99 for only available choices, InFUSE 4 Pro being preferred player on iOS 9 when QNAP stripped my TS 451 (QTS as a whole) of those Dolby Patented Audio Codecs through an deceptive “improvement” upgrade which is going to bring a class action suit at some point if they don’t smartly offer a PAIDED add on like they did for exFat. I expected a (quick) return of the support promised when I purchased my TS 451 and I’m stupefied QNAP hasn’t smartly made that add on offering before people collectively come at them with class action suits over this! Amazing how short sited a company can be, they can actually get customers to PAY the patent and relieve their burden if they figure out a way to offer such an add on but 2 yrs+ later still no support! Wow.

Now requires phoning home.

Now requires use of QID/ cloud service - direct local-only usage no longer works. No more logging in via local IP address. Phoning home should NEVER be required for me to access my own device on my own network, for any reason. Latest firmware and app versions as of 5/26/17.
