Could be excellent but has fundamental flaws
In general, and for very simple actions, this is a good app. It reliably tracks rides and provides good turn-by-turn route following instructions. BUT it has one major flaw, which renders it pretty much useless in my book. The problem lies in the ‘Explore’ function, where you search for nearby routes. This feature is downright awful. Let’s say you are looking for a new route to ride when you are on holiday in Italy. On the map you find that small Italian town you are planning to stay in, and zoom in to it to search for routes. This next step should be logical, but it is not. You hit ‘search in this area’ and a shambolic mess of routes is displayed. Most of these don’t start in the town but merely pass through (why would you want to see them by default?). Anyway, you click on a route and the map infuriatingly zooms out to show the whole extent of it. Let’s say that route is not one you are interested, so, to find another one you have to manually (yes manually) zoom back in to the town (which you can’t now find) and restart the process all over. This time you get different routes presented…eh, what’s going on? You try to narrow down the route choice with the options of surface type etc, and suddenly you get MORE routes presented. MORE not fewer? Eh, this is bonkers! If you are doing this in-app then things are even worse as each route you select appears as a red line on the map and when you select subsequent routes they overlay on top of the previously selected ones. Soon you have no idea what is going on as the map is just strewn with red lines. It is absolutely and utterly awful. What’s more, let’s say you know there is a route from that Italian town that your Italian friend Guiseppe created previously. Can you find it? Good luck. Eventually you will but it will take a huge amount of perseverance and time. So at this stage you give up. You go to the local cafe and you luckily meet a friendly Italian ex-pro who scribbles a route on a piece of paper for you…Molte grazie! Ciao! PLEASE RWGPS fix this!! It’s dreadful. The UK app ‘OS Maps’ does this far far more intuitively. Can you not replicate their approach? SIMPLY FIXES RWGPS NEED TO MAKE: DO NOT show routes that merely pass through a place. Have this as an option that can be switched ON if you want but by default the ‘explore’ function should only show routes that START at, or very near to, the chosen location. STOP the awful ‘zoom out’ thing when a route is selected, OR, at the very least hav
