Meh

It’s fine, but for my use case (using an iPad to connect to one of my devices using regular VNC protocol), this app is almost identical to Screens 4. The UI is slightly updated, and the toolbar has changed but to me in minor ways. I’ve been alternating between v4/v5 for the last week and can’t find any discernible improvements in 5 (again, for my use case). The lack of improvements + the high one time payment or ongoing subscription are disappointing. An update that IMO could have been provided as small updates to Screens 4 isn’t compelling, unless the devs show they will continually improve screens 5.

Great, as always.

Been a long time user of Screens and this new version is even better than its predecessor. The developer is prompt to help their users and keep maintaining the app on a regular basis. This is a good investment, trust me!

It is what it is

A Remote Desktop app can/should only be Remote Desktop. Not much innovation can be done/added…. Don’t fool by Screens 5’s eye candies. Just keep using Screens 4 and/or better yet there are many alternatives in the App Store ;)

Subscription rot

Another developer that thought it was a good idea to move to a subscription based business model. 1. Except that most people don’t need to have remote access to their computers. Which more or less negates the value of the subscription. I’m not paying for something I use maybe once a month. 2. Good luck trying to navigate explaining why something that is a core function which we’ve paid for in previous versions is now a subscription. That automatically goes into the delete bin. 3. The developer should be focused on adding value and reasons why we should be subscribing like the carrot weather app on top of core function. It’s a term in the industry called subscription rot, where every developer convinces each other that they could make a ton of money without having to do labour. And then all the developers find out collectively that there was zero market for that and you’ve effectively killed a good will in your app and people move on to your competitors. This is just what happened to NFT. Either way. Good luck and Figure your business model out guys.

If it doesn’t work, delete it.

Struggled with “port mapping” for days to no avail. The Mac world is famous for simple plug and play. If Screens doesn’t do that, forcing you to manually setup, delete it. Why do I need to I become a port mapping IT specialist just to use this app? Useless instructions.

Amazing update and great app !

It’s great to see a developper keep on updating their app - love the new features. Very useful and easy to use.

Subscription for a Remote Desktop app?! No thanks

Deleted Screens 5. Go back to Screens 4 which doesn’t look as nice but functions the exact same

Not very reliable

ac5903 on

Constant disconnections. And also appears to be entirely unable to punch through double-NAT on the train... complaining about UPnP configs. UPDATE: Replying to the developer response, this *is* while using the Connect application on the server side. And yes, I promise the credentials are correct. ) The connection itself isn't durable; by that I mean nn the train, other tools such as RealVNC and RDP work perfectly (even with occasional freezes while my modem switches towers, the connection always recovers) while conversely Screens (WITH Connect on the remote server) will just kick me out every time there's the slightest connection hiccup.

Constant disconnections, and authentication doesn't work a lot of the time. And also appears to be entirely unable to punch through double-NAT... complaining about UPnP configs. Bush league. Please do better.

Bummer

Doesn’t scale my Mac screen to match the resolution of my iPad and therefore had to choose a different app
