Shopper - List and Recipes

Thought I'd give this app another try after deleting it due to constant hanging. It worked fine for a while on my new iPhone 4 but now it hangs everytime I access my shopping trolley. Needs improvement.

While I have little need for some of the new apps which may be more relevant over seas, the shared list is an excellent feature. The amount of times my wife has devised a paper based shopping list system which has then fallen bybthe wayside, is beyond me. The ability for both of us to now access the electronic list where ever we are, is great. You can add things while they are fresh in your memory else, by the time you get home, that item is often forgotten. A great feature.

This app started out with great promise but got worse and worse with every new upgrade. The development cycle is geared around squeezing more revenue from existing (paying) customers. New "features" are geared around the American market with tacky widgets that would still be pointless even if they did work in New Zealand. It would been impressed if the developers focused on improving core functionality. For example, adding more category icons as I now have a very huge list of "miscellaneous" category items. I would also like to see support for two iPhone owners to share a single shopping list. At present, each person (usually couples) have to manage thier own individual list which the other person has limited access to. Now looking for a suitable replacement.

Shopper was the very first application I bought on the App store but I'm sorry to say that I will be looking for a replacement from now on. It was one thing when the system got more and more complicated with features that were targeted for the US market only. But now, having banner ads appear in my selection window when I'm creating my lists is too much. I'm sorry to hear the costs have overrun, but I don't think that adding advertising into a paying customer's application with no way to opt-out is a solution that will keep your customer base. I would have happily paid an extra cost (up to 4$ USD) to not be subjected to this, as I believe I've gotten many times more than my original purchase price of value out of the app, but now, I'll be replacing it. I'm disappointed.

I've enjoyed Shopper from MidCentury for many months now and have found it incredibly flexible and useful, having configured my regular supermarkets and I think (probably wishfully) that it's made shopping faster and has stopped me overspending on things I don't really need. Unfortunately, MidCentury have lost the plot recently. In a misguided attempt to eke revenue from existing customers, the app is now filled with ads for American products, FDA alerts and sponsored "flyers" that have no relevance to users outside of the USA. This is a regrettable bait and switch from the developers and is making the app very frustrating to use. What would otherwise be a 5 star app is nothing more than an annoyance now - Shopper's rating is plummeting in all of the iTunes stores/markets and while nothing would please me more than to recommend this app to everyone, until MidCentury reverse some of their changes, I'm in the market for another app. Mike.

When a company introduces ads into a paid app because they miscalculated their business model and then asks that you suffer the ads until they offer the opportunity to pay extra to remove the ads, you need to ask yourself whether you still wish to be their customer. I don't.

A well polished useful shopping application. Dead easy to find items. I love how you can shop by aisle and how you can set up aisles to match the order they occur In your favourite stores.

I have used this app for years and it has been reliable. It took a long time to get all the products we purchase regularly added so initially it took longer than a paper list. Once I had everything added it was really helpful though. After the most recent update I have decided to delete the app for good however. I sat down and populated my list with a weeks worth of groceries. When I opened the app at the store everything was gone. As if it were a new install. I restarted both the app and my phone but it was gone. I did my shopping from memory. Now I need to go back to the store as I wasn’t able to remember everything. Back to a sheet of paper for me. Even my notes app would be more reliable.

I’ve had the app for 4+ years. Went grocery shopping and all my stores in the app were missing. 4 years of data gone!
