I believe this is a very useful app with the ability to set a prompt (alarm) to remind you to complete your daily card. The app features "zen" style pictures behind the daily log. I don't, however, feel that the app is particularly pleasing to the eye although that is just my opinion. I think it is helpful to be able to see the skills I am using and it is a great reminder to see those you may not be taking advantage of. Having used the app for a couple of weeks I imagine that I am using my skills more regularly because they are at the forefront of my mind. I am also of the opinion that using the DBT cards I am more likely to use other skills which I am not as familiar with since you are shown them every day when you fill it in. I have not used the printing or emailing features but even the personal use of this app has reinforced the "habit" within me of the DBT skills generally. I feel this app has given me the ability to build a solid foundation of all DBT skills and will help me to become proficient at using them on a daily basis.
This is a good way to keep track of your daily skills and see which ones you have used and which ones you could have used. I really like the explanations and examples as the acronyms can be hard to remember. The notes feature is a good addition too. One thing I did notice is that the skill group titles are labelled incorrectly the headers for distress tolerance and emotional regulation need to be labelled vice versa but this does not prevent the app from being used effectively. One thing I would like to see added to this app would be a fully customisable behaviour diary card where you can tick off daily goals and targets, monitor urges and actions of user specific behaviours and rate emotions from 0-5 like on the marsha linehan diary cards. If this was possible then it would be a massively helpful tool for bpd sufferers and definitely a 5 star app! I hope that it is something the developers can implement into future versions.
Firstly I got my money Back from apple! I purchased the upgrade, expecting to be able to print and email my skills card. Neither work and crashes. The app developer said he is aware of it, and suggested I just take screen shots. However that doesn't do PDF like the purchase should do if it worked.
If you are learning dbt skills get this app - really worth buying
I really like this. The format of the app makes it easy to digest the techniques. You check off daily which ones you have done and so this has a cumulitive learning effect. Its very soothing 😊
Thank you. This helps me a lot.
The app is great. You might want to run these cards and examples through a spell checker. There are a lot of errors. I would like to use this professionally for my clients and have a hard time referring them to something simple when simple spelling cannot be addressed.
TL/DR: I cannot recommend this app for anyone who is in therapy and/or at-risk of harm to themselves or others. Users are unable to self-report self-harm, SI, substance use, unhealthy eating, or otherwise acting out. All entries are only Yes/No with no options for 0-5 or 0-7 interval ratings of skills, emotions, or distress tolerance. I really liked this app when I first began looking for a DBT diary card. The free version was fairly intuitive and use immediately. It has some nice mindfulness pieces incorporated, and there would be no more paperwork for myself or my Care Team. I could complete my entries and simply email them before my sessions. However, my Therapist suggested at my first session that I may want to consider migrating away from this app. Which I did. It does not capture any self-reporting of Target Behaviors for self-harm, SI, substance use, gambling, unhealthy eating, etc. And it doesn’t have the ability to add them, even if you purchase the additional modules. It actually made me feel unsafe that such a crucial part of my recovery—one that’s on every DBT diary card I’ve ever seen—was missing. It would seem like those risks would be the part to structure an app around, so I’m disappointed the developers didn’t include it. It’s as if there were no involvement or oversight from mental health professionals, or the developers were worried about safeguarding themselves. Either way, this is not an appropriate app for people who are at-risk. Ironically, the other missing piece is that all of the self-reporting that is available has a simple Yes/No response. This is an appropriate input for those missing Target Behaviors that were just mentioned, but the more accepted approach is a 0-7 and 0-5 ranking. My Therapist and I have no way of seeing whether I am unwilling, unable, or moving towards mastery of skills, or the strength of any emotions or distress I am experiencing. This is another significant gap for successful recovery. There are some useful parts to app and why I have kept it. The first is the 28 Skills Overview. Each has a definition that differs from Linehan, so I had an increased understanding of them. They also have a short scenario of what they might look like in actual practice, which I also found valuable. Finally, there is a Chain Analysis portion which I haven’t seen on other apps. I also haven’t had the opportunity to use it, so I can’t rate its suitability or if it’s flexible enough. This seems like an activity th
Works well. Stick with it! Reinforces the concepts well by usjj in bc the app you commit more to memory
