Good content and platform, too much annoying ads

Kenyi25 on

I loved the content and paid for the subscription but there’s just so much ads especially the one that’s taking out top reading space.

Clipboard snooping and low value subscription

robhung on

Australien

Every time I open the app, iOS 14 kindly informs me that SCMP has pasted from my clipboard. On top of this, their new subscription model does not remove the countless ads on their app / website. Why would I pay then?

You’ve lost a long time SCMP reader, disappointed you can’t find other ways to make revenue other than forcing readers to pay to read your content. It’s been a good ride. Bye

New version is laggy on iPhone 8 Plus

Keepo of the light on

Australien

Updated to the latest version today because I was FORCED to do so. And this is precisely the reason I don’t update apps. The app is literally unusable on IPhone 8 Plus on IOS 11.4.1. There is big blank bar at the top of the screen and scrolling on the home page is extremely laggy. Please fix ASAP and don’t force users to update next time. Regards, Dan

Ads are annoying and intrusive

concernedstudent971025 on

I get that the paper needs ads to survive, but please have a better way of displaying them and especially not to have pop-up ads like those ftp games. If not, then at the very least have paid option.

Screen top ad-banner annoying

a.k.zzz on

Australien

Always love SCMP and the app but the latest update having the ad-banner on top of the screen caused a bit of annoyance.

I have been using this app in Mainland China. The app layout seems to be designed well however all the images take forever to load and when clicking and article it takes a while for it to open.
