Stellarium Mobile - Star Map

Watch night sky, find stars

Veröffentlicht von: Noctua Software

Beschreibung

Stellarium Mobile is a planetarium app that shows exactly what you see when you look up at the stars.
Identify stars, constellations, planets, comets, satellites (such as the ISS), and other deep sky objects in real time in the sky above you in just a few seconds, just by pointing the phone at the sky!
This astronomy application has an easy to use and minimalist user interface, that makes it one of the best astronomical applications for adults and children who want to explore the night sky.
Stellarium Mobile features:
• View an accurate night sky simulation of stars and planets for any date, time and location.
• Dive in a collection of many stars, nebulas, galaxies, star clusters and other deep sky objects.
• Zoom on realistic Milky Way and Deep Sky Objects images.
• Discover how people living in other regions of the planet see the stars by selecting the shapes and illustrations of the constellations for many sky cultures.
• Track artificial satellites, including the International Space Station.
• Simulate landscape and atmosphere with realistic sunrise, sunset and atmosphere refraction.
• Discover 3D rendering of the major solar system planets and their satellites.
• Observe the sky in night mode (red) to preserve your eyes adaptation to darkness.
Stellarium Mobile contains in-app purchases allowing to upgrade to Stellarium Plus. With this upgrade, the app will display objects as faint as magnitude 22 (versus magnitude 8 in the base version) and enable advanced observing features.
Stellarium Plus features (unlocked with in-app purchase):
• Reach the limit of knowledge by diving in a massive collection of stars, nebulas, galaxies, star clusters and other deep sky objects:
  - All known stars: Gaia DR2 catalog of over 1.69 billion stars
  - All known planets, natural satellites and comets, and many other minor solar system objects (10k asteroids)
  - Most known deep sky objects: a combined catalog of over 2 million nebulas and galaxies
• Zoom almost without limits on high resolution images of deep sky objects or planetary surfaces.
• Observe in the field, even without internet connection, with a "reduced" set of data: 2 million stars, 2 million Deep Sky Objects, 10k asteroids.
• Control your telescope through WIFI: drive any GOTO telescope compatible with NexStar, SynScan or LX200 protocols.
• Prepare your observing sessions using the advanced observation tools, to predict a celestial object observability and transit times.
Stellarium Mobile is made by the original creator of Stellarium, the well known open source planetarium and one of the best astronomy applications on Desktop PC.
Your can unlock the full features using either a one time payment or a subscription. See In-App Purchase section for the subscription price available in your country. Payment will be charged to your iTunes account. Your subscription will automatically renew unless cancelled 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. What I think

It’s so cool how you can see which stars are which and which constellations they show. This is a great app to look at the stars and figure out which stars are which.

Great tool for stargazing, but missing a good amount of objects

I’ll start by saying that this app really is great, it streamlines star gazing in a very intuitive app, and I was so pleased with it that I ended up buying the premium version (which is it a very affordable price, might I add) however, it has some notable flaws first off, although the premium version does have a pretty huge collection of stars and galaxies, I’ve noticed there are a good number of stars specifically that are just not present or are missing alternative labels There are no stars from the Frank Ross catalogue that have their Ross catalogue names assigned to them. For instance, the red dwarf Ross 128 does not appear in the search unless you go and search the alternative designations for it online and then put those into the search instead. Not tremendously convenient, if you ask me. There are a number of other catalogues and designations missing as well, including Groombridge, the WR Wolf-Rayet catalogue, the Gum nebula catalogue, the RCW nebula catalogue, Trumpler objects, Collinder designations, and likely some others too. I realize that I listed a lot there, but integrating even a few of these other catalogues would eliminate a lot of frustration. On a side note, the app absolutely drains through battery, even when using the lowest possible battery settings. On my year and a half to two year old phone I can go out with close to 60 or 70% battery and be down to single digits in a little over an hour. Sure, I could bring my phone out with more charge, but I also think that there surely has to be some way to optimize the app a bit better for battery life across the board. None of this is to discount the good of the app of course, as I mentioned previously I do really love having this app to use for my telescope excursions. I would very much like for the less than stellar (forgive the pun) spots to get more polish.

AMAZING APP!!

It can help with star gazing, and locating stats that you might not have expected to see there, and you can see the future locations of the stars and planets too, which is great!

I now know where stars are and I can take pictures of them! I also know most constellations by heart (Cygnus, Aquarius, Ursa Major, Centaurus, & Andromeda) and I also know the purpose of constellations! Thank you Stellarium.

No Support

Purchased the Pjus version several year ago. At the time due to health difficulties was unable to attend Star Parties. Last night used it at a Club Star party and was not impressed. Could clearly see the Jovian moons in my Telescope and Binoculars. Zoomed in to show the names but the app didn't show them. Another club member had an app that showed the moons. Restarted the app and tried again still did not show the moons. Contacted customer support and the respondent said to zoom in. That was the first thing I did. What a waste of money $18.99 doesn't even work properly. Eventually fixed the problem by downloading Sky Safari and uninstalled Stellarium.

Outstanding growth over time

Kind of large storage footprint, as a designer guessing 1/2 or more is the database. Seems to have grown substantially over the 5 yrs or so since I first booted it up. Think I donated for premium upgrade long ago. Refreshes/Updates seem to be worthwhile, every time. Giving Grand daughters this tool. Makes me happy. U can turn off horizons, view as if you’re looking from a point in space, viewing 360 globe of surrounding universe.

Light Pollution

haroldsjs on

As for the heavens above, I live in the NYC metropolitan area. Light pollution is a constant! Stellarium is there despite the sky’s limitations! I once borrowed a friend’s telescope and I was privileged to see Jupiter and Saturn. Not with the best detail! But Stellarium told me where to look. I love this app!!👍🏻

The Hidden Heavens

Sobriquet’s Fact on

I look up at the night sky and see a few familiar stars, and of course, the moon. I watch them march across the night sky into early morning. I watch them shift as our seasons change. Some groupings I actually recognize, like, e.g., Orion’s Belt’s three stars. In modern day times, it’s difficult to see a REAL night sky because of street lights, or security lights that surround a country home. It’s nothing like the night sky of my childhood, and definitely not the night sky of our ancestors. This app is a directional key to the sky following your current location. It gives you names of stars and planets, moons and constellations. It opens a whole new view of the great unknown from the familiar star groupings you recognize, to the far reaches of little known constellations. It’s a window to the great unknown, even during daylight hours. Just point your phone in whatever direction you choose and it brings up what is out there. Waiting for us to find.
