It’s really hard to connect the Amp to my iPhone. Fix it fast.
The good is that it works fine on my Mac and iPad but despite all my efforts will not work on latest iPhone or iOS for iPhone. Just cannot see the device from within the app tho the THR is connected and I can play iPhone music on the amp. And yes, Tech Support, I updated the THR system just today! Given the other reviews it’s kinda shocking I have to write about this obvious flaw. I did not try with other mobile or PC OS environments to see if iPhone is the only issue. Works as advertised on the other devices. Able to access more than just device itself such as two other suites of amps plus about 40 Yamaha created presets, which could provide an instant 6th “preset” tho patience to download plus volume likely won’t match. If you’re really industrious and memorized a manual setting literally dialing it up on the device live you’d have a 7th but it’s gone once any other preset is invoked. Now, what about enduring my phone can control my THR so I don’t have to deploy some kind of computer?!!!! Be nice if Yamaha included the USB cable too though with so many different computers which USB to put on the other end? Those of us with hubs wouldn’t have to worry.
Just wanted to say that I just updated the firmware of the THR10ii itself, and the app still disconnects from the amp within a couple minutes of using it. I give it 2 stars because it’s great to be able to use these features, and if you can save to a preset and assign to the amp in time, it will remember it, but because it constantly disconnects you find yourself tweaking settings only to discover that nothing is changing and you have to start from scratch by closing the app and reconnecting. I’m not sure what the issue is where it can’t just maintain a simple connection, but until the app is fixed I wouldn’t advise anyone expects to use it as its intended. Yamaha, please do better.
Guys, it works perfectly fine! I have this app on my iPhone 13 Mini, iPad Mini, and my MacBook Pro - it all works! People either have no clue how bluetooth works or they haven't updated the firmware on their actual THR unit (it even says to do this in the latest release notes and it takes 5 min). I use this with the G10TII too and it works great. Yes I’ve seen it disconnect but it always reconnects within seconds. If you don’t want to deal with firmware updates/bluetooth you shouldn’t have gotten this kind of amp. I absolutely love my THR30II and the range of tones it produces. It’s a shame the people who don’t know how to read instructions or do the most basic troubleshooting are the ones leaving all the bad reviews.
Is that ok?
I’d give this a 4 if it would connect to Bluetooth consistently and stay connected. There’s a slim chance chance it will actually connect when turned on, meaning that my device says it’s connected, but the app isn’t communicating with the amp. And then I have to go through the annoying dance of turning off and on the THR, closing and restarting the app in an attempt to get it to connect. Maybe I need to update the THR software? Idk but if so, the app should tell me if there is an update and how to install. Beyond the connectivity issue, which is by far the worst problem, there are lots of usability improvements that could be made: 1. I don’t want to swipe to access the other effects. These should be located at the bottom of the screen as category tabs. I don’t want to swipe 4 times to get to reverb. If there are too many categories to fit, make the tabs scrollable. 2. It would be nice if there was some kind of a tone guide to the different types of amps and cabinets and how to create specific tones by combining them. 3. Grouping the cabinets and giving more description about them 4. Remembering settings 5. Minor things such as being able to double tap the name of the preset to select all text, visual design padding is a mess. 6. A nice touch would be to have haptic feedback when you turn the dials.
I’m running this on IPhone, it connects and controls amazingly, this little amp is so sweet for practice. It takes pedals well and does everything from Merle Haggard to Master of Puppets. It’s unbelievable that we can get this many tones in our rooms and control them from our phone. This app took an already awesome practice and creative platform and took it next level.
But it rarely works. What’s the point of buying the amp?
Pretty much everything that can possibly go wrong presents itself here. Navigation between preset vs. user memory slot makes no sense. Unresponsive. Cab models change on the fly regardless of how you save them. Unstable overall functionality & constant crashes. Shoddy bluetooth syncing.
Yamaha sells nice amps (ie, the THR30ii) but they put zero resources into supporting products. This app is a prime example- it hasn’t been updated in years and is buggy.
