Tread App

Excellent App. I just need the same thing to work on my Macbook and then 5 stars.

Great application …

Love how this application seamlessly synchronise my Garmin & iPhone. Love the folder structure, and how it’s customisable to my trip’s focus. Also love the colour coding. Room for improvement: - Allow me to plan routes (currently very poorly executed for any trip outside USA) - Make it easier to share waypoints, routes, etc.

Has potential but too many frustrations

The concept of this app used in conjunction with the Garmin XT2 is a good one. Plan the route on your phone or tablet and wirelessly transfer it to the XT2 ready for use. However, many people want to do their planning on a PC or Mac using a big monitor. This cannot be done using Tread which is a mobile device only app. If you want to use your computer for planning you have to use a third party app. Using Tread, one problem is that that routes don’t transfer properly. When you transfer a route, shaping points are moved from where you placed them in the app, causing the XT2 to make a different route choice than the one planned in the app. The app is also very frustrating to use because it does not display place names other than the very major towns and cities and even then only when zoomed right out. As soon as you zoom in for any level of detail the place names disappear. The synching process with the XT2 also often results in the XT2 locking up and crashing. Concept good, execution lacking. Please fix the issues listed above and create a desktop (or web based) version of the app so that users can plan routes using a computer as well as a tablet or phone. Then it would be great. As it is, three stars only I’m afraid.

Very very poor

The combination of the Tread App, the Garmin Explore website and my Tread Overland GPS device is absolutely terrible. The developers should be ashamed. The three components do not integrate properly, they are overly complicated to use, the connections and syncing are very fragile and inconsistent. I bought a very very expensive GPS device and it is absolute garbage.

Took me a while

After ten years experience with Basecamp , I initially didn’t like Tread , but that’s because I didn’t understand it. Now I love it , in particular its ability to store in Collections. However , there is no facility to input start times or times of necessary stops , into route planning . That was a useful feature available with Basecamp.

Rubbish

I foolishly bought a Zumo XT2 and have used it for three trips over many thousands of kilometres. The Tread and Explore apps have an appalling user interface with little logic. The interface between iPhone and iPad to the Zumo is hit or miss. This product and its apps are the least intuitive and most frustrating products I’ve had the misfortune to buy and attempt to use.

Awful

Multiple, significant, issues. Routes that are created in the app and then transferred to a Zumo XT2 are (if short) usually okay. Anything with any shaping or via points or any moderate length to them, once synced to the device, then get altered by the Tread app, which is then reflected on the device. Maps are not offline (why?!) Any routes that are imported, either from BaseCamp or MyRouteApp, through the app will become corrupted and will route in totally the wrong way, even with waypoints and shaping points. The only way (seemingly) to get a route on the device without Tread mucking it up is to directly add it to the device or SD card, and ensure that Tread does NOT sync. If Tread syncs, your efforts are wasted. The files need deleting, and starting again. Absolutely unbelievable. Totally unacceptable for a company providing navigation solutions. Reported to Garmin - nothing happening as yet. Issue is far reaching (quick Google will show that). Garmin - sort this out. I can see why customers are leaving in droves for your competition.

Useless app

I do not know what I am doing wrong. I plan the route in the application, but in the Garmin zumo xt2 the route is shaped completely differently. I would really like to know if anyone at Garmin reads the customer feedback.. I'm not sure if they would recommend the Garmin zumo xt2 to anyone.

Tread app. Useless

As many others have commented I bought an XT2 as it seems a premium product. I’ve come from using TomTom to this and am regretting it. Planning a decent long route on an iPhone is ridiculous. The Garmin support shows things like the adventure mode and shaping tools. Not on my version of the tread app and it’s the latest version. I downloaded the XT2 instructions and that pays lip service to actually plotting a route. Global company with lots of resources. Come on Garmin, you customers deserve better, much better.

Seriously Garmin do you hate your customers?

I am having the most torturous experience just trying to pair up device and make a tout using your software. It’s so badly optimised and convoluted. I seriously don’t know how you get away with it. All leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I will NOT be buying another Garmin device 100%
