Participation in this program is currently limited to USAA members with an active auto insurance policy in select states.
The USAA SafePilot App instructs, inspires and rewards safe driving habits to help keep you safe on the road while lowering your auto insurance premium.
Eligible members can receive a discount of up to 10% for enrolling and participating in the program, and earn a premium discount at renewal time for being safe drivers.
When activated, the app monitors driving habits including phone handling, hands-free phone use, harsh braking, and how much you drive. The better you drive, the greater the discount on your next premium. All members of a household included on a USAA auto insurance policy can participate, with the earned discount based on an average of each driver’s individual score.

Not a good concept
Stressful to maintain
Harsh braking is not valid
Call on hands free is not a valid driving demerit
Call in progress on hands free should not be counted as a negative since it might be important
Entire scoring is not conducive to safe driving
Discount is not worth the stress on a driver
Review
I think this driving app is OK, but I don’t understand why no hands driving is an infraction
Not working every time
Update after training: Have to keep changing settings to reflect me being the driver. It's not recording all trips. But now even after finishing the training portion come to find out YOU DON'T EVEN GET THE DISCOUNT IF YOU DRIVE UNDER 400 MILES DURING THE 20 DAYS??!! SO THAT'S SCORED AGAINST YOU😤 I had no marks perfect driving but they scored against me I got 94 out of 100 🧐I never use my phone when I'm driving I'm a careful driver but it was scored against me for not driving over something like 390 miles so you have to at least get almost 400 miles to qualify for the discount in 20 days that's a scam😢I thought that USAA was better than the others apparently not🥺
(First impression:The first few days I had the app it was working fine it recorded when I left the house and when I returned it recorded just fine and then the other day it stopped working it didn't record when I left the house it only recorded my trip back and I thought well that's odd and I tried to see if there was a setting or something I know in advertently turned off or done some thing I couldn't find anything it's pretty straightforward and simple but it seems that maybe it's been hacked or something it's really odd it's doing it again it's not recording when I leave the house only on my return trip and when I open the app it starts flashing and glitching a whole bunch so something definitely wrong with it and I hope this doesn't affect my rating because
Penalized for safe driving
Why should the driver get deducted for using hands free device use? That's the whole reason for it, not to get distracted by the physical phone.
I hate this
This in my opinion is communistic to be forced to have to use this in order to receive an extremely low discount on insurance. It should be outlawed. And insurance companies that force it ought to be fined. It’s an invasion of privacy. I do NOT like someone I PAY WITH MY HARD EARNED TELLING ME THEY NEED TO KNOW MY EVERY MOVE AND TRAVEL IN MY VEHICLE. This is wrong!!!
You went in the wrong direction with this app update
I have been using this app for about 8 months and overall have been pleased with it, that is until tonight’s update. I’m not a fan of the new way my information is displayed. You have to click more areas to see details of your trip. Please go back to the original display.
Also, I only have 1 infraction (hands free call) and my score is 96? I lost 4 points for a 5 minute hands free call? That doesn’t seem right. I’m not sure this updated app is accurate. You may need to go back to the drawing board on the updated app design & accuracy.
Most recent update.
The most recent update is going to take some getting use to. That is a way of saying I liked the old format better. New and improved is not improved. Please return to the old format.

I don’t like it when it says I driving when I am not. I went on vacation and rode around in a bus , and the app said I was driving. When I’m out the car and walk in the house it still says I am driving. I drive my car to work and the other times my car moves I am in my car but my husband is driving.
When I am in his car or my daughter car it says I am drive.
Need another choice
The app is great but it needs a choice of: a child has the phone. Every parent lets small children play with their phone while driving to entertain them please add this it would reduce my phone handling by 98% at least
Sometimes
Sometimes when riding with my son it shows up like I am driving.
