“Best music theory learning app out there. I just want to say this app is completely amazing and an incredible amount of work must have gone into this. I have been looking for an app just like this to complete my learning between music classes and this has everything I need and more. I highly recommend!” —BigMat74, Oct. 20, 2023
"Absolutely phenomenal. This is better than any YouTube video, podcast, or music theory book I have read. Within 48 hours using this app I have actually comprehended what is being taught far beyond any previous comprehension for past products. Honestly they could charge more than double the amount and it would be totally worth it." —Artice, May 3, 2022
"It's obvious a lot of time, love and energy has gone into this app. It's very well thought out, easy to follow and keeps you coming back for more. The developer is super friendly and answers any questions you have. It's clear he has a real passion for what he does and genuinely wants to help out. Awesome work all round" —thatboyswiss, Jan. 8, 2019
"I have probably spent thousands of dollars perfecting tone on pedals, instruments, amps and apps, posters, printed media, online courses. The BEST PURCHASE has been your Waay app." —A.P., Apr. 1, 2020

Almost perfect

It’s well set up, the lessons are concise and clear, and the progression of lessons makes sense. My only issue is that I can’t speed up the videos. I have adhd. I would rather watch a 30 min video at 2x speed, than watch a five minute video where the speaker is speaking so slowly that I can’t focus on what they’re saying AT ALL.

Great! Until…

I thought I hit the jackpot on this app. That is, until I hit a wall and it said I had to pay $110 to access the rest. I don’t understand what the deal is with everyone wanting to charge for subscriptions or an insane one time cost. Gone are the days of being able to buy an app for a reasonable price. I’ll just get this information for free on YouTube. You almost had me!Thanks, but no thanks.

Best app I’ve used in a long time

I rarely write app reviews, but this app has helped me so much I had to give it the praise it deserves. Music theory has always been daunting for me. I studied and played both piano and violin for all of my childhood and teenage years. I still play violin but wanted to start experimenting more with my sound and writing my own pieces. Most of the theory I know came to me in passing through playing, but I never had a formal and organized way of understanding it until this app. Now everything makes so much more sense! My playing has greatly improved thanks to this app.

Finding patterns in music

I’m not far into Waay, but I’ve found it really useful in developing my understanding of music theory. I practice on Waay every morning for like ten minutes and my understanding of scales and building them have vastly improved. I know what key I’m in for the songs I play on piano, and I can see the little patterns that rule most music. It’s really interesting and very insightful, I look forwards to the rest of the course.

Great way to explore 🎼theory

Great tutorials, fun and challenging practice exercises, ways to track your progress, this is an exceptional app. The developers really thought this through. I’m super impressed at music theory content.

Great so far

I’m just about 20 or so lessons in so far and it’s very helpful. Been writing music for years with only basic theory knowledge so I’m trying to get into more advanced theory. One critique: the audio lessons that start each section could really use a “15 seconds back” button for when you space out. It’s hard to move the time bar any less that 40 or 50 seconds back. Thanks though, the app is very strong so far!

Super helpful for theory

Incredible app, better than conservatory

Jon22225151515 on

I am a former music student that studied piano at conservatory, but my theory had grown weak in the years since I graduated. I was looking for an app to brush up on it and I was blown away by Waay. I hated theory in college - it intimidated me and I was bad at it since my high school teachers never focused on it. This app has me actually looking forward to practicing it and doing the exercises, which is something I never thought I would say. The content is top notch, but the actual app design is beautiful as well. I barely ever leave reviews but this app is just wonderful in every way. Thank you to the developer; you’ve made my life a little bit better because of your work.
