“Best music theory learning app out there. I just want to say this app is completely amazing and an incredible amount of work must have gone into this. I have been looking for an app just like this to complete my learning between music classes and this has everything I need and more. I highly recommend!” —BigMat74, Oct. 20, 2023
"Absolutely phenomenal. This is better than any YouTube video, podcast, or music theory book I have read. Within 48 hours using this app I have actually comprehended what is being taught far beyond any previous comprehension for past products. Honestly they could charge more than double the amount and it would be totally worth it." —Artice, May 3, 2022
"It's obvious a lot of time, love and energy has gone into this app. It's very well thought out, easy to follow and keeps you coming back for more. The developer is super friendly and answers any questions you have. It's clear he has a real passion for what he does and genuinely wants to help out. Awesome work all round" —thatboyswiss, Jan. 8, 2019
"I have probably spent thousands of dollars perfecting tone on pedals, instruments, amps and apps, posters, printed media, online courses. The BEST PURCHASE has been your Waay app." —A.P., Apr. 1, 2020

Time to learn…..

I have been a musician for 60 years playing clarinets, bagpipes, recorders: single line instruments, never a keyboard. I could hear harmony, but never understood it. Now I have been asked to teach it, so I had better learn it. I am only three weeks in weeks in, but already understand more than I have ever done before. This will be my great nephew’s Christmas present. Thank you.

Genuinely helpful

I’ve found after a month of using this app I’ve made way more progress with my music theory knowledge than I have within the past 10+ years of trying to understand things on my own terms. The tips, tricks and exercises are very helpful in actually memorising these theory concepts. I find the practice sessions to be pretty fun too, they’re like daily puzzles. I hope we get more courses soon, I’d like to start learning some more advanced concepts and techniques!

Waaay too expensive.

I have not purchase dance a subscription, but I don’t plan to for what amounts to videos of captions and pressing buttons with no sound feedback.

Fantastic (and with great support, too).

I’ve not completed the full course yet but this is by far the most accessible and intuitive music theory course I’ve done. It feels “sticky” - as in you want to come back and earn more stars on the practice exercises - and it’s presented in a simple, clear way. I’m actually quite addicted. There are a couple of *very* minor tweaks I could suggest so far that are probably more to do with my learning style than the app but they shouldn’t put you off at all. (Just for transparency, they’re are that I’d benefit from unlimited (rather than finite but unscored) practice sessions and it feels sometimes like there’s a little bit of lag when answering the exercises (although that could be me just stabbing the screen clumsily trying to beat the timer - must. get. stars.) Both are really minor and I understand the design decisions as to why it’s not this way.) Finally, the fact that this is made by a sole developer and that he’s friendly and available to answer any questions you have once you start is also wonderful. Well done, Alex!

The easiest music theory learning I’ve ever used

Disappointing

After reading so many great reviews I decided to pay for this. I thought there would be resources or materials for music theory. How wrong I was. The only resources are animated videos, which is a very poor format for reference. Everything else is gamified exercises. It may get better and have more info in later ‘levels’ but I wanted and expected something totally different. May work for some but this doesn’t support my learning at all.

Very helpful…and fun!

I went from knowing nothing about music theory to knowing lots in about a month I would highly recommend this app to anyone who is a beginner.

Very happy

What a great purchase. In two days I feel I understand what a lot of the beginners music courses I am following have been dancing around for weeks. Such a great combination of theory, rules of thumb and application. Two things that might have helped me even further: an immediate pause when tapping (I’m never quick enough when the narrator suggests pausing the video) and full subtitles or transcripts for those moments when I was struggling to hear clearly. Overall though, extremely impressed.

Amazing!

I was a little tentative about spending £6 at first but trust me it’s worth it! Alex explains music theory from the ground up in a very clear and concise manner, assuming no prior knowledge from the user. If you’re an absolute beginner this app would be perfect to start getting into songwriting - I myself already had some prior knowledge but still found it super useful to tie everything together and consolidate my knowledge. Lessons are interspersed with exercises to make sure that the knowledge sticks. All in all, well worth the money!
