I really like this app, I’m using the Anki deck Japanese vocab plus images and sometimes copying and pasting into Yomiwa to get a better understanding of the words, I’m finding it really useful and use it everyday, I hope to use all of the other feature as I need them.
Could not get this to work, I figured out how to open the camera, then took a photo of my antique Japanese calligraphy sign but alas couldn’t figure it out after that. The photo could not be moved, there was no prompts as to what to do next, no scanning graphic of the symbol followed by translation. Nothing just stuck with the photo scene. I pressed every other button and link but none was the one to translate photo. So I deleted the app.
I really like the reading view. As well as the excellent OCR feature and easy look up features, it gives you access to many reading resources. One thing lacking is that I can’t store documents on the app. I can import a pdf, for example, but I can’t save it. It seems strange that you can import documents but only one at a time and you can’t save them, so I have to keep importing the same documents . Edit after developer response: Thank you for replying and explaining the reason behind the missing feature of saving files. I don’t actually need to edit my pdfs or text docs, just read them, and have easy access to them. For example, I have a lot of pdfs from my audio listening that have the transcripts, and it would be nice to have them all in one place without having to import them each time. I have also converted my purchased ebooks into in text format, and so if I am reading a book importing them all the time is frustrating, and makes me keep looking for other apps. Perhaps the feature I need is not a popular one, and if so, I’ll just have to accept it. I might check out the feedback site - thank you for that as well.
This app has really helped unlock reading in Japanese for me. Easy to use, very functional, it’s helped me so much and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for anybody any Japanese.
Haven’t used it much so far, but the interface is very intuitive and it seems incredibly useful. It will be a great resource whilst I’m studying Japanese!
Truly a fantastic Japanese learning resource! When I first got this app I didn’t know how much of a life saver it would become. I’m currently studying Japanese at university, and since recommending Yomiwa to my classmates, we are now all using it every day to make studying Japanese a breeze. The camera and analyser tool puts Yomiwa far above other Japanese dictionary apps. Real-time kanji scanning saves so much time, and is not only useful as a study aid, but also for real-life situations like reading street signs, maps and instructions. The drawing tool also works so smoothly and is more efficient than other applications in my opinion. The analyse feature is also something I’ve never seen before and is so useful for picking apart sentences with difficult words. You can even type your own sentences and use text-to-speech which works as both listening and pronunciation practise! If you are studying Japanese, Yomiwa is an indispensable tool which will help you immensely. I cannot recommend it enough. No really. I can’t stop telling all of my friends. Please help me!
I use romajidesu on web but now even if I am struggling in a meeting I can use this! So helpful, please keep it up!
Very helpful in translating and practising kanji! Can practise writing of the kanji in the tube and loads of downloads available.
Am currently studying in Japan and faced with walls of medical Japanese. For me, this app is a lifesaver for when the foliage of unreadable characters gets thick - a real machete in the jungle. Also, I contacted the app developer as I wanted to be able to transport my vocabulary lists for printing. After a swift response from the developer, this facility was duly delivered. Strongly recommended for Japanese learners of all levels!
