I have struggled to sleep for over a decade and became aware of Daniel Erichsen's work via the Sleep Coach School on YouTube around 12 months ago. His teachings were the opposite of everything I had previously tried for sleep and it has helped me greatly. I decided I needed a framework of sorts to get me back on track and wanted to be able to ask lots of questions along the way and signed up for the app with the AI coaching.
I've been using the Bedtyme app for a little while now and chose the AI option since it suited my budget. I was a little skeptical as to how effective this would be and whether I would get a good enough response from using 'Ellie' as an AI sleep coach - but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how well it works.
I feel like I genuinely put Ellie to the test asking her SO MANY questions it was ridiculous. I wanted to see if a) the AI came up with an appropriate answer and b) how specific it could fine tune its response and c) how well it would cope with being plagued with question after question. I guess I was trying to catch the AI out.
I asked some questions that I knew the answer to, and other questions I was curious about and in all honesty, the AI has been trained extremely well to provide a very good response. If Ellie came back with a broader answer, I would ask a follow up question (without having stated the original question again) and to my surprise she picked up where we left off without me having to remind it of the original question. For example, after asking the initial question and receiving a response, I would then say, 'well, what about x'? and then 'why is that important'? And so on or, completely go off on another tangent and she would keep coming back with great answers.
There's no question that having an in-person sleep coach would be amazing, but the big bonus using the AI coach is that you can ask limitless questions without feeling like anything is too silly to ask, without being self-conscious about having to ask something more than once or in a different way for clarity and of course, you get all the answers instantaneously which can be really helpful when you're anxious. If you are the kind of person that over analyzes your thoughts and can go down rabbit holes (which is common when sleep-deprived) the app can really put your mind at ease and it can stop you in your tracks before spiraling into further anxiety around sleeplessness and your health.

As a first time mum, I’d had my nights of little to no sleep but when I had my first night without a single minute of sleep I knew I had a big problem. I was trying sleepy teas, no blue light after 6pm, no chocolate at night plus a cocktail of melatonin, antihistamines and diazepam and I truly thought my ability to sleep was broken and irreparable. I had started down the road of CBT-insomnia with a sleep psychologist and I was only getting worse. I stumbled upon The Sleep Coach School during a late night reddit dive desperate for some help. And thank god I did! The first night I used this app I had the best night sleep I’d had in weeks. I’ve now learnt that education is one of the greatest tools for insomnia and the gentle approach of this app is perfect and not too much at once.
Nothing short of amazing!
This app’s daily information paired with Daniels amazing support is an absolute God send to anyone suffering from insomnia (I’m also learning a lot about myself in other aspects of my life as a result too, bonus!!).
I have tried a few different methods, but Daniels teachings are very gentle and really focused on self compassion and kindness during the process. I’m so grateful for this app and Daniels amazing work!
Really helpful app- definitely worth the investment
This app honestly eliminated my insomnia for the most part. Occasionally I may have a bad night sleep like anyone else, but the app helped me recognise my beliefs about sleep and how these were keeping me awake.

Life changing
I had already started to benefit from Daniel’s approach to recovering from insomnia after reading his book ‘Set it and Forget it’. However the app really cemented this through its thoughtful daily education on sleep and a simple to follow program. The program involves a timeless sleep window and an encouragement to accept insomnia through befriending wakefulness. This was hugely beneficial to me, but a stand out of this app is the direct chat function with a sleep coach. Daniels responses were thorough, timely and so supportive. His gentleness and dedication to supporting people to sleep is really apparent and this is what I appreciated the most! Also he really encourages self compassion and I think that was key to my recovery from insomnia. While insomnia was a really challenging experience for me my recovery (which is still ongoing) from it has made me a more thoughtful, present, compassionate and far less anxious person and Daniel’s approach and this app played a large part in this. You will learn so much about sleep but more importantly you will learn about yourself. Highly recommend :)
Can’t recommend enough!
This app was truly a Godsend! If you are struggling with insomnia, I highly recommend checking out the Sleep Coach School on YouTube. If those teachings resonate with you, then this app will do wonders. I had tried a more traditional CBTi before this one, and it felt like I was being punished for my sleep issue.
This program is highly focused on educating you on the scary, lonely, craziness that is experiencing insomnia. The program teaches the importance of self care and letting go to resolve insomnia. I started sleeping better almost immediately. Having the sleep coach was key! Coach Chris was so encouraging and helped me connect my experiences to the teachings. I recommend this program to anyone who wants to resolve their insomnia without taking a medical approach. After about a month of learning and working with Coach Chris, I feel confident I’ll be able to leave my insomnia in the past!
I never write reviews, but this helped me so much that I feel like it’s important to spread the word. There is hope out there for anyone struggling with their sleep!!
Worked really well for me
BedTyme worked really well for me. It took a while, almost eight months in my case. But in the end I moved well beyond insomnia. It is important to realize that it is not just an app. It is a comprehensive program consisting of lessons the app teaches on a daily basis which encourage you to greatly rethink how you understand relate to sleep and the help of a sleep coach who responds promptly during the week to your messages. My sleep coach, Beth, was excellent. She patiently, gently, and wisely nudged along the whole time.
Turned it All Around
During postpartum with my third baby, I had a full sleepless night (even though baby was sleeping) and I was unable to nap during the day no matter how hard I “tried”. I panicked. It was such a foreign feeling. And that turned into many compounding nights until it was a full blown disaster in my life. It messed with my brain chemistry so badly that I couldn’t see a way through it. I felt incapable of taking care of my three small children. I saw so many doctors and different types of therapists. I was forwarded this app by a kind stranger overseas on a WhatsApp group who was tipped onto the fact that I was struggling tremendously with this. It turned it all around. Understanding why in fact I developed the insomnia, why nothing seemed to “work”, and learning how to untangle it from my psyche has brought me back to life. This journey through has become an enormous metaphor to life, these modules and processes. For you self-help interested friends…it’s kind of similar to the foundation The Untethered Soul (Michael Singer) but for sleep. It’s digestible, hopeful, motivating, so friendly. I’m thankful now for the whole experience and what the wilderness of this season has ultimately taught me (still is). Expecting that it won’t be perfect from here on out but I can and will cope with what is as I’ve proven to myself. I just dropped 8 prescribed meditations into a drop box at cvs. Good riddance. Writing this review just praying you give it a chance. 🙏🏼 thank you to these angel creators and coaches.
